Bananas rule, spades drool. End of discussion. @hilde45 Bananas are not actually meant for gorillas. 🤣 So what do you use instead?? Hey! I resemble that remark! I have some cables with spades. I have some cables with bananas on them. When they break, I strip the wire and thread them thr...
Bananas rule, spades drool. End of discussion. I test a lot of amps with my speakers. Bananas get compressed, bent, and broken on a semi regular basis. Admittedly, I'm an experimenter these days and for most people, they just plug it in occasionally.
Bananas rule, spades drool. End of discussion. @erik_squires I like this topic. So, serious question for you: What about banana plugs that compress and get looser over time?
Value of a preamp? Arguable, all preamps "color" the sound. Instead, I prefer "season" to "color," since that’s all any audio equipment is doing -- presenting artifacts of sound for delectation. Nothing is untouched. It’s all artifactual.
Value of a preamp? A good tubed preamp will greatly enhance your sound period. kennyc: I disagree, as there are satisfying SS preamps also such as Dartzeel, Audionet, Griffon Commander… it depends on the execution and of course user preference. There is nothi...
Building your music digital music collection I see no reason to store files. If the system that provides our music goes down, we'll have much larger problems.
Here's to the temperate, the gentle, the moderates in audio Nice additions. One thing I especially like about some channels (E.g., A British Audiophile, Hans Beekhuyzen) is that they always open the hood and can discuss what is happening in the design and parts. I come away with a better understanding of ...
Here's to the temperate, the gentle, the moderates in audio Thanks for the additional suggestions. And for the pleasant remarks. Some of us read French and we understand who needs to be banned from the site. In the meantime, have a pleasant weekend!
Here's to the temperate, the gentle, the moderates in audio Notice how the trolls just can't help themselves. No one invited neworleansjazz and he/she/it are attempting to re-ignite negativities. Begone, troll. You're not respected nor wanted. Go yell at a cloud.
Volume levels This thread is helping me understand the stakes. IF we are comparing good, non-compressed recordings only, then the advantages of digital over vinyl are substantial. IF we are looking instead at recordings subjected to the "loudness wars and co...
Here's to the temperate, the gentle, the moderates in audio I like Jay's Iyagi, Thomas and Stereo, New Record Day and more. There is a range of different styles. Some are more promotional, others are more objective (Hans, Tarun), but they all realize that a soft touch is more respectful and, ultimately, i...
Volume levels @cleeds Thank you for correcting the false information. There is a lot out there. E.g., Paul McGowan: "Live music typically has a dynamic range of 120 dB, peaking at about the same loudness of a jet engine (though some concerts have gone even loud...
Room Treatment suppliers @erik_squires I have a room with a very low ceiling; I could not get bass to even out. Here’s what I did: I went around the room with low-band pink noise playing and, using a db meter, I measured all the places that I was getting very high rea...
Floorstanding speaker experiences/recommendations in the $12-25k range I was pretty impressed by Apertura Edena speakers. https://www.6moons.com/audioreviews2/apertura/1.html
Volume levels LPs often have wider dynamic range than digital sources ??? "Vinyl records have a typical dynamic range of around 70 dB, depending on the equipment used to record the audio and cut the record. CDs have a typical dynamic range of 90 to 93 dB... |
