Does Steely Dan sound bright to you?
@mijostyn Afraid that won't explain it. No peaks there, at least not on REW scans. All looks good in both SPL and Spectrogram graphs. No ringing either on Waterfall graphs.
Raven Blackhawk LE... am I going to be disappointed?
Good choice, @b_limo but I'm biased. I don't think the Tektons are in the same league as Salks, and the Raven was clearly not going to power them. Start with speakers, then get amp to match is good advice. Be curious to hear about your new amp. Sa...
What Are Your Reference Discs? or Specific Reference Tracks
@fuzztone What is your post referring to?
Does Steely Dan sound bright to you?
@dinov No, not all were top notch. Read guitarist Denny Dias on the DBX fiasco of the Katy Lied album. https://sdarchive.com/dennys3.html
What is it you expect to hear from hifi gear that you have not yet?
OP -- me too. I'm hoping to hear my bluesound vs. something better with all other variables stable to see what the fuss is all about (or not).
Songs for Discriminating Ears
ECM: Re (album) Recat (song) by Lodebauer/Villalobos. Mind blowing.

@sokogear You make a powerful case to this SD fan for a turntable!Since I don't have one, the "they" in your comment is unfortunately very hard to get stabilized, as the thread below details. Many masterings, releases, etc. moot the genuine intere...
What Are Your Reference Discs? or Specific Reference Tracks
Rather than list tracks, I'd refer you to this video and comment: "If you want to learn to evaluate sound equipment, the most important factor to start with is being comfortable with your stereo. Just take many hours, listening to a variety of mus...
Excellent Speakers for Classical Music - $2,000 USD Budget
Holy sh*t --those Spendors. 1/3 the MSRP and dynamite product. I'd buy these in a heartbeat. @jjss49 has got great ears and lots of experience. Listen to him.
Does Steely Dan sound bright to you?
To be clear -- the effect I'm hearing is on Aja and Gaucho only. On Aja -- especially piano on Home at Last which is a bit shrill and much more on Gaucho, especially Babylon Sisters and other tracks on Gaucho which are bright. Again, mostly these ...
Does Steely Dan sound bright to you?
@decooney  Thanks, and I should probably know better to ask such a vague question. Given the variety of media and masterings out there, my question almost doesn't deserve asking because it merely leads to differences based not on hearing (though t...
Does Steely Dan sound bright to you?
Thanks, all. The tragedy is that with all the information which could be conveyed with the music we stream, there's precious little that you get along with it. CDs and of course vinyl albums gave us all we needed to nerd out about the details of a...
Does Steely Dan sound bright to you?
Ok, good. I think I've gotten a reality check, here. Appreciate it.
Do any of you kids , want your system ???
I don't know if they do, but if they don't, I would go to the nearest audio club and find out who is the youngest or least able to afford audio and give it to them. Or go to my local college to the music engineering department and ask some faculty...
Excellent Speakers for Classical Music - $2,000 USD Budget
I’ve been very happy with my Salk stand mounts for classical. In your budget, you might consider these towers:https://www.salksound.com/model.php?model=SongTowerEmail or call Jim about classical music and see what he recommends. With the above mod...
