More Grounding Questions Would opening the grounds let RF noise in the system, that may be getting grounded now?Just a thought that occurred when reading.
Raking Angle A metal shim might rattle.I've been using the tape for decades, and dealers like the idea too.It stops rattles. Some were using Blu-Tack,but switched to the tape method.
Raking Angle Jwglista,I use Scotch electrical tape.I start with pulling from the roll, then fold it at 1/4" lengths,or longer if desired.Keep folding until desired thickness is reached.I use that for spacing.Sometimes when things don't sound right,I put a coupl...
Raking Angle Try a thicker mat,or a few records stacked carefully,to raise the cartridge to see if that is the problem.I don't know if that will change it(SRA)enough, but it's a quick easy experimental trial.
recording shows from cable TV? The analog outputs from your cable box into your DVD recorder ,should work. That's what I do.Of course it's standard definition. Before that,I used a VCR.Try to buy one with a 30 day return, just to be on the safe side, but I never ran into a copy gu...
Dedicated lines - the better sounding 120v phase? Xti16 pretty much covered it I think.I would try both sides, just in case one does have something noisy on it.Dimmers usually seem to give the most noise,in their dimmer positions. An AM radio(off station) is good for checking noise from a dimmer,...
Can temperature fluctuations affect audio gear? If you plan on using the system,I would open the door, and blow a fan on it(system),while it warms up.Maybe a hour,or so first. The warm humid air from downstairs, plus your humidity might cause condensation in them,if it gets fairly cool.
Two NAD 2200 bridged amps w/6 ohm speakers - OK? For best result the bridging mode should be used with a single 4-ohm or 8-ohm speaker in each channel.I wouldn't use anything less than the 8 to 16 ohms, like it states on the back of the amp.Link to NAD.[http://nadelectronics.com/content/100420124...
Best sub for HT? HSU and SVS are a good choice.

PrimaLuna ProLogue Two - mixing tubes? Also,if you swap the two tubes on the same channel, one of them may/will(depend on amps&tubes)over dominate the other sonically.IT depends which one is in the push, and pull sockets. So,if you like the sound of one tube type more than the other,r...
How close to the real thing? Memorex had the most hiss of all the tapes too.Maybe that's what broke the glass.
How close to the real thing? For those comparing a theater movie to audio might get a different view if they see a good 3D movie done nowadays. It's been to long for me,but this is what I was told. They said you could see the audience jump or duck from an action seen in 3D.Our...
Surface Noise - another question Another thing that may emphasize surface noise is a piece of equipment that has a 3db peak,at or near the surface noise.A cartridge, speaker, amp,or other gear are +/-3db quite often.A system that has very little noise might have a -3db dip in the n...
How close to the real thing? I wonder how anyone could put a percentage on recorded vs. live music either.I think the ones that have a problem with recorded music, may have a system that is not up doing what it should correctly. |
