Any way to reduce pre-amp noise floor? Amperex 7308
Thoughts on Audio Research D70 KT-120's are not recommended by the factory for use in a D-115mkII. I would however use caps furnished by ARC as well as the red cap plugs that go on top of the cap .
Scott amp update/speaker question NS-10's were used a lot in recording studios as near-field monitors. Your 30T's may be similar in design. The NS-10's tended to be a bit bright on the top and rather revealing through the midrange. This however is working in your favor with the Sc...
Any way to reduce pre-amp noise floor? Use low noise resistors in that circuit. But you are always going to get some kind of thermal noise from a tube depending on the gain of the circuit.
Bedini still in business? John..As someone who had serviced your amps in the past, I'm happy to hear you are alive and well and planning to make a comeback. I want people to know that you are a great guy and you have always helped me in the past when I needed it while work...
McCormack DNA 0.5 Deluxe thumps turning on/off I believe there is a mute relay on turn on/off which might not be working. The relay could be locked in the on position. I know there is a protection circuit in that amp. I have an old CB for a 1.0 in my office. I will look at it on Monday.
Ultrasonic Oscillation Also many SS amp manufacturers use something called a Zobel Network. It amounts to a series inductor (coil) and a capacitor or just the inductor. This is used as a filter and is located just after the output devices prior to the signal hitting you...
Thoughts on Audio Research D70 That's the one. Also make sure you measure 10 ohms at ground to common tap at output transformer.
ARC Ref 3 bad tube? It sounds like many a tube had been put in and pulled out. It may be time to either replace your tube sockets, or have someone retention them. If they're prone to falling out, it's time. I try and tell people when you are pulling tubes out of thei...
Thoughts on Audio Research D70 No flaming. My attitude about spending gobs of money on NOS tubes is kinda like buying expensive flowers. Sooner or later there going to die...LOL I'm not a big fan of NOS output tubes. The D115mkII was designed around the Philips/Sylvania 6550. L...
ARC Ref 3 bad tube? Good point. Normally in say, a 610T amplifier, the timer is expressly for the output tubes and gets reset by the tech. after replacing the output tubes as you have to go inside the amp to do it. The regulator in the Ref3 does not need to be replac...
Thoughts on Audio Research D70 The CL-150 was a totally different animal and frankly pretty average by today's standards. It started life as an M-300 and used Chinese coke bottle 6550's which at that time, were just awful. Their were no Russian 6550's at that time, and the Sylv...
ARC Ref 3 bad tube? I agree on finding an ARC warranty repair station. I have seen residue in 6550's and the tube was fine. If it's only happening on one channel it's not the power supply. First just turn the amp on and leave the preamp off. That will tell you if it'...
Hovland HP100 service? They may be Holco resistors. I know Holco's had issues with high voltages. They would become very noisy.
Thoughts on Audio Research D70 The Classic series had triode configured output tubes. This tended to make the output tubes last longer and gave it a sweeter presentation. I believe the front end was fet transistor up to the driver tubes. Very different topology from the D-115mkII |
