Replacing TT with CD What is a WTT&A? It's probably obvious but I can't figure it out.
Gain matching of power amps Edesilva, you are correct. Gain in dB is additive so your math is correct. You are also correct about amplifiers being nonlinear. However, a well designed amplifier will keep this non linearity to a small fraction of a dB and shouldn't be of concern.
Gain matching of power amps I've said it before, that Sean seems like a very reasonable and wise person.
Bass Response and concrete floors And now for something completely different. In the brochure "31 Secrets to Better Sound" from Anantgarde USA, it says the opposite. They recommend installing a wooden floor over concrete. He describes concrete as "colder less involving sound" vs. ...
Which SPEAKER for the 21ST century? Hi tweekerman. Have you heard a Lowther driver or it's equivalent? From your statement "never heard a midrange cone that produced high fidelity sound" I would have to venture a guess that you have not, or that you've heard them in highly colored b...
Gain matching of power amps Matching the gain is very important. It's true you can't control it unless the amp has a volume control. It is function of the amplifier design. But different gains will result in different powers being delivered to different drivers with the same...
Have you ever broken the needle? I got that price from the US distributor. I sent the cartridge to him and he forwarded it to Wilson Benesch. The way I understand it, they also rebuild by replacing the suspension. According to the distributor, putting a new tip on an old catridge...
Have you ever broken the needle? I just sent my Wilson Benesch Analog cartridge back to WB to be retipped/rebuilt for $300. I haven't gotten it back yet so I can't be sure of the results. But the price is very reasonable.
Have you ever broken the needle? My dog got frisky one night and decided to run in circles around the room. On one lap, her leg snagged the power cord to my turntable and pulled it off the shelf causing considerable damage to the table, arm, cartridge, and ruined the record. The a...
Which SPEAKER for the 21ST century? Sorry, I can't somewhat agree. It's called a system for a reason. Weakest link and all that stuff. I've heard mediocre speakers sound pretty good when hooked up to superior electronics and good front end. I've also heard some excellent speakers so...
Question about polarity-inverting preamps I was going to let this one go by, but Rockvirgo's post begs a response. It's got a few problems. On single ended inputs the signal goes both positive and negative with respect to the chassis. The preamp does not "generate" a missing negative half...
Where can I get RAM super low noise tubes? Last time I talked to Audio Advisor they told me they are getting out of the tube business. All the tubes on the web site are marked CLEARANCE. They don't have any 12AX7 listed.
What would you do about a sleazy buyer?? Sorry to hear you got jerked around. You could start a thread on lawyer jokes.
Best Engineered Album, - Diana Krall ????? I gave up on the grammys a few years ago when Michael Bolton got best male performer. I have purchased several turntable systems from the Needle Doctor. Each time I was given a substantial discount from the retail price and was given excellent adv...
Why is 2 Channel better than multi-channel? For the past 50 years or so people have been working to optimize the sound of the hardware in a 2 channel system. They have also been working to optimize the sound of 2 channel recordings. Then a few years ago multi-channel recordings were introdu... |
