CD player IC XLR--- RCA
You won't get higher output from the CDP with an XLR-RCA adapter than the RCA-RCA. The adapter takes the non-inverting pin of the XLR out and puts it to the center pin of the RCA, which is the same connection made internally in the CDP to the RCA ...
Why does this Biwire set-up not work?
What do you mean by "not right?"
Hardwiring?
I am confused. How would you do away with separate cables unless you built everything into the speaker cabinet? These systems exist, they are typically called boomboxes, but the few I have listened to had some serious shortcoming.
Jolida 302B low frequency hum
It's a ground loop. Type that into the search engine here and you will find a lot of information.
Stands make a huge difference with ProAc
Yes, stands are very, very, important in getting the most out of a monitor. I don't think you are going to more bass though. You should get tighter bass with a solid stand and it may seeem like more since it will easier to follow a bass line if it...
300B Tubes - Which is Best?
Stereophile did a comparison of 300B tubes a while back. It is archived on their web site.
Transformer hum?
Transformers work because the expanding and contracting magnetic fields in the primary windings created from the changing primary currents cut through the secondary windings and induce current flow.Transformers are designed to operate with a pure ...
Transformer hum?
It doesn't matter if the dimmer is on the same circuit. Everything is tied together back at the breaker box. The dimmer on the light in my stove hood upstairs made a balanced line conditioner hum in my basement. If you are in an apartment your nei...
TT set up in the Bay Area
You could try the Analog Shop in San Jose. They are very good but I don't know how thrilled they would be to work on something you bought from Audio Advisor. I disagree that you got a good deal if you can't get it to work correctly. Maybe you woul...
Transformer hum?
You probably have noisy AC lines, which may be caused by light dimmers. Turn off everything in the house and see if goes away.Do a search on "transformer hum" for more ideas.
hifi as investment?
While some items retain their used value (usually about 50% of retail) longer than others, as soon as the next generation of that item comes out they will drop in value. Since you can't really preditct when that will happen, I think your plan is f...
Adjustable output on CD player
My name does not often appear in the same sentence with elegant, simple and cheap is another story.
Advice on MM/MC phono pre-amp please.
No damage will occur in either case.Your cartridge was designed to be used with the MM stage. The MC stage is louder because the gain is higher to accomodate lower output MC cartridges. Since yours is high output you don't need the extra gain from...

You may also wish to consider in line attenuators like the Rothwells
Amp heat sinks are ringing
Excellent idea Gnobber, I would continue to acquire wine corks. Even if it doesn't stop the ringing you won't care!
