Hegel owners - what speakers are you using
I use an H190 with Bowers & Wilkins 704 S2s. I'm not a great judge of comparative speakers, but they are compact floor standers. Perhaps if you bought them from someplace where there's a chance of taking them back if you don't like them that w...
Best Dedicated Streamer
What impressed me when I got a Hegel 190 was how much it improved streaming music (which wasn't a particularly high priority thing for me). I wouldn't call myself highly informed, but a subject for research would be what the amplifier stage does f...
Vinyl goes green!
I think vinyl has been green for the last 35 years because 80% of the LPs you buy are recycled.
Washington Post article on MoFi vs. Fremer vs. Esposito
I would think the important thing would be the analog source, and if the digital stage reduced the number of generations it takes to get to the disc it would compensate for the insult to one’s digital virginity. They shouldn’t have lied about it. ...
For those of you who had spent over hundred thousand dollars for your sound system.
If you've got that kind of money you can spend your way past your mistakes.

How Audiphiles are Different
Listening is also a test. An assumption is being made here to a degree that machine measurements are the objective truth, and that if one heard accurately the listening test would be identical to the mechanical test. The question is whether sound ...
Acoustic Guitar on Vinyl
To get more specific on Richard Thompson, the album Strict Tempo!, which is acoustic guitar with Dave Mattacks on drums, is very well recorded and seems pretty reasonably priced on Discogs.
What’s the deal with high end CD transports not having the ability to program tracks!?
I've been listening to CDs since they stopped putting everything out on LP, and I have never once programmed a CD, though I can see how you'd miss the feature if you used it. The thing that got to me is that when everyone was manufacturing CD play...
Dust cover up or down?
I have a Sota Comet I bought used and the dust cover is more or less an afterthought, and looks like it, something they started making because there was a demand for it. There are holes for hinges in the back of the plinth, but it's clearly never ...

How do you arrange the order of your records?
My LP collection I divided into categories: Comedy/Spoken Word; Folk/Ethnic Music; Show Tunes/Original Cast/Soundtrack Albums; Classical; Jazz; Rock/Pop, all alphabetical within each section. From the start with my CD collection, I just lumped all...
