Package Has Disappeared in USPS System So I’m very curious how so many of you here have had very bad luck with items getting lost and or damaged. Very curious. 450 shipments and counting, although my days of buying and selling are very limited these days. I always overpack my shipme...
Favorite scream in rock? Chris Cornell was the best screamer among all rock royalty. Perhaps the most unique as well.
ARE SUPER EXPENSIVE STREAMERS REALLY WORTH IT From my experience once a good DAC is implemented the streamer has very little to do with it as long as the signal is good. Most good quality DAC’s now can overcome any issues with timing/data issues/ noise, ect. This mirrors my experience. Th...
Trends in value of vintage / used audio equipment? I’ve noticed a lot of high asking prices for vintage or near-vintage gear in recent years, especially with regard to turntables and speakers. Seems to be less common with amplifiers for whatever reason. Some vintage speakers that guys were scori...
Package Has Disappeared in USPS System I once had a $7K check stolen by someone in the USPS chain of custody. The issuing bank’s fraud department was able to provide me a photo copy of the check that the thieves “washed” and cashed at a local BofA branch. I subsequently filed a report ...
BEST SPEAKER THAT COMES TO LIFE AT LOW LISTENING LEVELS Børresen speakers have an inherent response that compensates for the Munson/EL curve. Klipsch Heresys are also pretty good for such dilemmas, but they lack some refinement relative to others, and require tube amps to sound best. Another good opt...
Which sounds better 2 way or 3 way speaker design ALL 2 way have a hole in middle and are compromised ! Said only the inexperienced listeners.
Maggie LRS vs .7 I actually preferred the .7's to the 1.7's even. There's something very coherent about them... doesn't go as deep, but the bass they produce is more detailed and textured, the midrange is really where the magic is with the .7's. Same experience...
Auditioned Wilson Sabrina X vs B&W 803D4 and Shocked Not at all surprised by your findings. We don’t all share the same size/shape/age ears. Nor do we all share the same language and dialect (which does affect how we perceive sounds). So it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise that we don’t share the s...
Which sounds better 2 way or 3 way speaker design I’ve encountered many 2-ways that outperform many 3-ways. It really depends on implementation. I’d rather own a 2-way design with top quality drivers than a 3-way design with mediocre drivers.
There Is Nothing Like the Real Thing - Our State of the Art @helomech Omnidirectional speaker designs have existed for over 60 years. One of the first I recall is the Ohm Walsh. Other brands are German Physiks, MBL, Mirage, Linkwitz Labs, Dueval, Morrison Audio, and one DCM model from the 80s with a mul...
There Is Nothing Like the Real Thing - Our State of the Art To replicate the sound of, say, a live and non-amplified quartet, I suspect the playback system would need be incredibly complex, but somehow remain highly transparent. I envision something like large, orb-shaped speakers that are equipped with m...
Entry Level Tube Integrated Amps The Chi-Fi tube amps (the good ones) made by reputable brands are remarkably good—better than many American tube amps IMO.
What contributes most to a change in how an amplifier sounds? Take two SS amplifiers that produce a perfectly linear response from 20Hz to 20kHz. How is it they can sound different? My hypothesis is the answer lies in the amount and type of harmonic distortion, and what mix of harmonics dominates the distort... |
