Best integrated for my purposes - help me choose 1 of 3! Interesting views on the Yamaha vs Parasound. The Yamaha is a stellar choice but as someone mentioned the transformer change in this model year... I know from the amp building that this is a major foundational aspect of the design. Not sure any...
Best integrated for my purposes - help me choose 1 of 3! Hardly true in the yamaha argument parasound uses very high quality parts and they are designed by John cure a genius in circuit design It is indeed true. The Yamahas employ Nichicon and Chemi-Con caps. The Hint has cheap Taiwanese caps. Parasound...
Seas A26 - Anyone heard them? I have a pair of A26s with the Madisound-supplied cabinets (actually they’re built by Source Technologies out of CT) I deviated from the original design some by lining the insides with No-Rez material from GR Research, and used brass machine screw...
Clearaudio vs EAT turntables Not likely to sound world’s apart when fitted with the same cartridge. They all have a similar design philosophy in that they’re non-suspended belt-drive tables. I’d send an email inquiry to each company as a test of their customer support. I’d wa...
Best integrated for my purposes - help me choose 1 of 3! The Yamaha has both the best build and sound quality. Economy of scale allows them to use better parts than what you’ll find in the others.
The Weekend The Weeknd has more talent than most here, that’s for certain.
NOS Tubes - Ecstasy or Agony I rarely have issues with my NOS tube orders, especially 6SN7s. I recently ordered some Tung-Sol mouse-ears (highly recommended) from Brent Jesse and they perform well. I wasn’t thrilled with the cleanliness of the tubes though.Andy of VTS overpac...
Trust Make sure the boxes are strapped to pallets and shipped by freight. Have the seller take pictures of each stage of packing prior to shipment. “Inadequate packaging” is one of their favorite allegations in denying insurance claims.
Building new system starting with power amp. What would you choose ? Gryphon is what immediately came to mind as soon as I read your notional budget. The Diablo is hard to beat for overall sound quality in a neat package, especially if you have no desire to fuss with tubes. Solid state really doesn’t get any better...
Magnepan 3.7i vocals sound harsh When I owned the Halo Integrated, I found it had a smooth presentation overall, but oddly, it was also grating. I wonder if you’re hearing intermodulation distortion. It’s an inherent weakness of planar-magnetic designs. It seems some amps allevia...
Killer used integrated for <$500? Yamaha A-S500. Measures better than some amps costing 5X its retail price and sounds great.
Help! Spakers damaged during shipping?Paid insurance (with proof)being told not Insured? I learned the hard way that Fed Ex doesn’t honor insurance claims for audio gear. It doesn’t matter how much proof you furnish or how many of their hoops you jump through. I would be surprised if UPS is not the same.
Not Thrilled with Vandersteen 2CE Sigs - where is the first place to work on? @helomech I’m surprised to hear you say that. I’m not sure the 1ci’s are necessarily better, but I’ve found they work better in my house with small rooms than the 2. There is something magical about the 1’s though isn’t there?I’ve encountered quit...
Not Thrilled with Vandersteen 2CE Sigs - where is the first place to work on? Sell them and get the 1Cis -- much better speakers. |
