TurnTable Quest I have not heard a restored AR, but I'm sure they're very good.
What do audiophiles want from a cable? I got a pair of speaker cables to sell.. They're made of military and aerospace grade beryllium copper, harvested from fragments of a comet that only passes near earth's orbit every 100,000 years. These cables are then coated with platinum, becaus...
What do audiophiles want from a cable? Audiophiles want magic!!!!!
TurnTable Quest Check out Dave's fully restored Thorens models at Vinyl Nirvana. These tables will walk all over many similarly priced new tables. The cartridge also makes a huge difference. I started this hobby on the budget end, which only ends up costing more ...
Please help ...integrated amp under $1200 Another vote for the Rogue Sphinx V2. Has a great built in phono preamp and will drive almost any speakers. The sound can also be somewhat tuned by swapping tubes. I think they might be on sale at Needle Dr.
Upgrade Opinions, Thorens vs VPI Tablejockey,The table allegedly has a "built-in" SDS.I tried all 3 pulley grooves and they produced similar results. Maybe "trounced" isn't the best description, but my Thorens did sound significantly better. I'm not trying to bash VPI, I'm just b...
Upgrade Opinions, Thorens vs VPI The outboard power supply label shows 48V DC to the motor. I got the Classic all set up a couple days ago and have been less than thrilled with its performance. I realize that equipment needs time to break in, but the motor was very loud and I cou...
My final table , hopefully ! I recently returned a new VPI Classic 1. Mine arrived with scratches all over the platter, which I was prepared to live with due to the nature of the soft aluminum. Unfortunately, the motor was quite loud (I could hear it running when standing acr...
Tube Amp vs Solid State Amp HELP You might try ordering a couple of "inexpensive" integrateds from a site like Music Direct, which will allow you to audition them with your gear and return them if they don't work for you. Though I'm not sure if the customer has to pay for return ...
Tube Amp vs Solid State Amp HELP I've been curious about the following amp. Maybe someone here has tried one.http://www.monoprice.com/mobile/product/details/13194?maincategoryid=109&categoryid=10919&su...=I believe they are basically a knockoff of a more expensive brand, ...
Upgrade Opinions, Thorens vs VPI Thanks to everyone here for the advice and insight. I'll report back after I've had some time with my Classic.
Upgrade Opinions, Thorens vs VPI The most appealing aspect of the SoundSmith carts is the relatively low cost of retipping vs MCs. I've noticed cartridge prices are skyrocketing. Many carts cost 20% more than at this time last year.
Upgrade Opinions, Thorens vs VPI Thanks tablejockey, The classic Signature was over my budget. I'm now considering a Soundsmith Carmen or Grado Sonata2 which would work with my current phono stage.
Ortofon Red on Thorens TP16 tonearm The Shure M97xe with Jico SAS stylus is great with the TP16. The body of the cart required some minor filing along the screw recesses to achieve the arc alignment. It tracks everything with ease and once broken in, (about 50 hours) it sings.
Upgrade Opinions, Thorens vs VPI Thank you Mat, that's good to know. Haven't taken delivery of the table yet, can't wait to get it spinning.Tablejockey,What kind of phono stage are you using? |
