Experiences with your "Better Halves"
Like Craig above, my wife has pretty much zero interest in the stereo, but has made a few comments over the past couple of years indicating she knows that it is not run of the mill stuff. After seeing Diana Krall live in a local venue with less th...
What do you do when the kids come along?
I'll agree with what Artemus said above and add one more thing. When the kids go to bed at night, play your music just like you do now (that means loud if you play it loud). Do this right from the beginning and (hopefully) you won't have problems....
AC power cord termintation
Hubbell 5266 is a nice plug for about $10 Cnd.
Plasma vs. CRT based HDTV
I don't have loads of experience in this area, but from what I've seen, the plasmas blow away the CRT based sets. I looked at both recently showing a high definition feed of the Olympics and it wasn't even close.
Acoustic Research AR18 .. anyone know of them ?
I used to own a pair in the early to mid 80's and they were a decent speaker-I upgraded to Linn Indexes and then to Elipson floor standers. I would think they would be bettered by today's smaller Missions, B&W's or similar budget speakers. See...
LP 12 the Extreme Phono Way-First Impressions
My post above should read that I experimented with marble and granite under the turntable (on the Target shelf) and that the table sounded better going straight onto the MDF spiked Target shelf. The half inch glass has been a clear winner with the...
LP 12 the Extreme Phono Way-First Impressions
Just a quick question. I have had what I consider to be very good results (considering a relatively low cost) with 1/2" glass, which is actually 12mm as opposed to 11 mm as a support. I use it within a Target rack with vibrapods between both Targe...
phono stage volume
Just turn it up. Unless you're past 1 o'clock on the volume, I wouldn't even begin to worry about it. On CD, I typically run at about 9-10 o'clock; with vinyl it's always between 11 & 12, sometimes more.
Glass???
I have had excellent results with 1/2" glass (I use it on a Target rack for extra isolation) with vibrapods between the glass and the normal Target shelf as well as between the glass and component as Sdcampbell says. In this configuration (a vibra...
Bob Crump DIY Power Cable Help
The P&S should be the easiest part to find (probably available at many electric wholesalers that carry P&S); the Schurter and Belden are tougher. Best bet on the Schurter is Allied Electronics and possibly Anixter for the Belden. You may h...
RCA plugs that don't fit.
Just as an aside, do not overtighen. Your best sonics will be obtainied by going about an 1/8th of a turn once you start to feel resistance with the locking RCA's. If you really crank them down hard, the sound will start to harden up as well and b...
Power cords for Audio Refinement system
If you hack the ends off the Volex and replace them with a P&S 5266 plug and Schurter iec you have an Asylum cord. A noticeable improvement over the stock volex for about $20 more, but not, in my opinion as good as many of the better used cord...
Will new power cords by my answer?
Will you reach audio heaven with cords? I don't know. But as far as I'm concerned, you can't realize the true potential of the components you already have without aftermarket cords; and I own equipment which is a lot further down the food chain th...
Fuse or braker for dedicated lines?
Was unable to track down any of the ceramics, but switched a glass based fuse to a plastic based yesterday and the improvements were definitely audible. Definitely smoother, less strident. Another of those "go figure" tweaks I guess. And I also us...
Anyone compare outlets?
Don't be so quick to say that Dekay! You may change your mind shortly......
