Worthwhile $5 Tweak Ed: I am reasonably sure that the Foundations that Stehno uses come from the factory with the ground disabled (as the manufacturer figures they sound better this way) with the ability to reverse this. Stehno, obviously will be able to shed more li...
Need inexpensive power line conditioner guidance. The Quantum Electroclear for $40 is an absolute bargain. It will give you active conditioning with one component (and is very effective with budget digital gear) as well as parallel line filtering. Having used it in conjunction with much more expe...
Worthwhile $5 Tweak Stehno: I am actually in agreement with you on the floating/disconnecting of grounds. I run my system off one grounded receptacle, with two grounded power conditioners plugged into that receptacle. One conditioner is dedicated totally to my integr...
source disappointment Newer, cheaper digital is getting better all the time. People should realize that with respect to digital, they are essentially buying a computer; one that, unfortunately will be well on its way to obsolesence in 6 months to a year. I've written a...
FAST and NOT THIN sounding PC recommendation? I will second Bigkidz recommendation of the JPS Power, but I actually haven't heard it! I did build a power cord using JPS in-wall cable, however, about 6 weeks ago, terminating it with Marinco 8215 male and 320 IEC. This cable will come in at aro...
Review: World Power Receptacle Cryoed Hubbell 5362 Tweak Hchi: This review was submitted in July of '02, and about 3 months ago I did a direct comparison of a cryoed 5362 to a cryoed 8300 in my system. My system configuration has changed since the review listed above in that I now use two Inouye conditi...
Audiolab info needed I have owned an 8000A for about 13 years now and am still using it. If you appreciate the overall accuracy of the amp, which I do, but want a slightly warmer presentation at the same time, I would suggest pairing the 8000A (or S) with a Cardas Gol...
Under Appreciated Jazz Piano Players I guess, by definition, "underappreciated" is someone who is less well known and shouldn't be. As nobody has mentioned Cedar Walton, I think he should be added to the list.
What slim$1000 speakers will match Bryston B-60 ? Bryston distributes PMC speakers; don't know if they are slim and $1000, but chances are Bryston feels they are a good match with their electronics. You might want to investigate and contact them.
Ive got me the Digital Nasties The Quantums are available right here. Do a member search for Mr. Stereo and contact him.
Ive got me the Digital Nasties Many good suggestions above. In the quest for better digital sound, I've gone to an aftermarket cord (without spending huge $$$), damped the chassis of the player extensively with industrial floor tile, addressed support and isolation, and used hi...
Isolation transformers on CDP to reduce glare? I have no experience with islolation transformers, but do own Inouye line conditioners and Quantum Electroclear filters. For $40, the Quantum will do exactly what you describe, and do it quite well, even if you are using a good line conditioner.
Why my system has detail but no body & warm vocal? I would agree with a number of the posts above with respect to tweaking and tuning. Speaker placement and whether the room is really hard sounding and bright are critical issues. So are what your electronics are sited on.So, for a freebie, experim...
Anyone have problems with Arcam digital gear I no longer own an Arcam CD player, but did in the past and it was very reliable. I also have a friend who owns a much older Arcam CD player who has had no problems. Cambridge would be one to avoid in my experience.
Jazz/blues guitarist suggestions for SRV fan. Try Melvin Taylor, very versatile; I think he's much better than Stevie Ray Vaughan. |
