Cardas Burn-In LP This should help:http://www.cardas.com/content.php?area=music&content_id=4&pagestring=System%20Setup%20Tools&album_id=8
Cardas Burn-In LP I have the Cardas Sweep as well and would agree that the blanks are certainly not the be-all/end-all in setting anti-skate. That being said, in my setup the arm moves very, very slowly in the "outer" blank and hardly at all in the inner blank clos...
Anyone tried the Zu Denon 103 yet? Hi Tony: I am the guy that wrote the Uwe review at AA; my user name there is blake. The Soundsmith route is the other way to go and I was actually alluding to that in my post above with respect to the re-tip. My 103R will be due to be replaced or ...
Anyone tried the Zu Denon 103 yet? I haven't heard the Zu 103, but I'd rather put my money into a 103R with one of Uwe's wood bodies (do a search at vinylasylum for Uwe/wood body/Denon), which is exactly what I have done, for a number of reasons.First of all, while you will find th...
Bellari with medium output cartridges? The Bellari has only 30 db of gain. You are going to want to stick to 5 mV output and up cartridges with that phono stage unless you want to be very frustrated.
Cartridge Limitations or Break In? 400 hours is a bit much with most cartridges I would say. My Denon 103R had pretty much blossomed by 50 hours. I've heard of extreme examples of around 200 hours. Given that you can break in most cartridges on the Cardas Sweep Record in about 2-4 ...
New analog system disappoints, please help I really wouldn't describe that as a "modest" front end so I would think that there is something drastically wrong with the setup. Unfortunately, the problem could be anywhere. From your perspective, I'd look at the easiest thing for you to deal w...
what causes sibilance? Clearly, you may receive many different answers/opinions on what your problem may be. So my opinion will only be one of many! While the Disc Doctor Miracle is supposed to be a top quality cleaning product, it is also, from what I understand, notori...
Gain and Loading Tom: Overload could be indicated by distortion if it is really heavy duty, or it could just manifest itself as a more aggressive, strident quality to the music. Ideally, all things being equal (which of course they never are) your 2.5 mv output ca...
Gain and Loading Tom: Depending on the rest of your system, 50 db of gain may be putting you into an overload situation. If you can do it, I would suggest getting as close to 42 db as possible for gain and starting with the 47K loading. From there, you can experim...
Getting started in vinyl for under $100 I put together a system for my 14 year old son a few years ago based on a Pioneer PL 12D I picked up at a garage sale for him for $5. Added an AT 120E, my old Audiolab 8000A which was sitting around, then bought a pair of used, just refoamed JPW P...
Most Influential American Musician of All Time? Gs5556 I believe has this one right. If the question is "influential", the answer would have to be Handy based on his influence on all of the major American music forms: blues, country, jazz and rock. It's a stretch to call classical an "American" ...
Outlaw RR2150 Phono Gain w/ DL-160 - 40db or 55db? There is a bit of controversy surrounding the actual output of the Denon DL 160. On the Needledoctor site, Jerry Raskin actually says he has measured the output of the 160 at 2.2 mV as opposed to the stated 1.6 from Denon. If indeed it is 2.2 mV (...
Good low-price cartridge for listening to rock. Well the Grado that Marantz4me was considering is $180 and the AT is $89. The Zyx at $600 MSRP seems a little steep for the "low price" category but maybe Mehran will discount it to $200.
Which Steely Dan Aja lp to buy? Yup, the original ABC. They're everywhere cheap. In the dollar bins at used record stores (or certainly very reasonably priced), record shows or the thrifts. Chances are you can buy 10 of them for the price of the re-issue and out of the 10 you'll... |
