Kimber Kable 8tc V.S. 12tc I never really had a problem with the physical design of the Postmasters. My concern was more that the rhodium plating or "kimber ultraplate" that they use on them was contributing in a negative way to sound quality and possibly responsible for th...
Kimber Kable 8tc V.S. 12tc I've run Kimber 8TC for about 20 years and, on a lark at the beginning of the year bought some Mogami 3103 to experiment with. It can be purchased for about $2.50 ft. and I had it terminated with high quality Vampire copper based spades. The 8TC w...
Woofer sucking in and out Someone might want to ask Luna if his speakers are ported. Oh, Luna: Are your speakers ported? If so, do yourself a favour and buy the KAB. Your speakers, your amplifier and your ears will all thank you for it.
Heavy table on Target vw1 'pro'? Current Target Wall Mounts are crap. Use one at your own risk. Seek out an original like this one that just sold:http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?accsrack&1302135299&/Target-Wall-Mount-Stand-and compare them, even visually, online.I ...
Denon 103R on a MMF-7 Not sure about the Satisfy tonearm with the 103R as it likes lots of mass but the Cambridge 640P is just not enough phono stage for the cartridge if it is combined with the right arm and lacks enough gain. You will need 60-62 db of gain.Jeepman: Y...
Power Cord for $50 or less? DH Labs Power Plus cable can be purchased in bulk for $6 a foot and Marinco male and IEC can be done for about another $25-$30 so you are just slightly higher than $50. A very good cord (and gets much better if cryoed and burned in properly which ...
Best recording audiophile level albums of 2010 Or if you have a decent turntable you can just buy a clean Sterling pressing of Damn the Torpedoes for $5 at the local record store and put the rest of the money toward something else.
Jelco SA750 D optimal cartridge alignement I'm mounted at 214 mm as well. The issue with many cartridges at that mounting distance is not having enough room in the headshell slots to move the cartridge back to achieve alignment with the 15 mm overhang specified by Jelco. I simply would not...
Jelco SA750 D optimal cartridge alignement I have a 750D on a Gyrodec. There has been considerable discussion at the Vinyl Asylum about the mounting distance of 214 mm on the 750D not being "right". At 214 it's quite possible that you might not be able to achieve proper alignment with many...
moving coil pre-preamp hum My suggestion is simple. Try experimenting with, very carefully, moving the head amp around. It may simply be picking the hum up from another nearby component or cable. Not unusual with phono preamps or head amps. Many have issues like this.
Confused about gain: phono + pre, or just phono? I've had no noise with the DB Systems stage (which is a very inexpensive phono preamp) and the Aqvox but reviews of both have noted that these are extremely "quiet" phono stages. Both are pretty much "CD quiet" both while the music is playing and ...
Confused about gain: phono + pre, or just phono? Not only will a .25 mV cartridge work with 62 db of gain, it has worked optimally in my experience with 2 different cartridges and two different phono stages, neither of which were KAB phono preamps, for me over the past 5-6 years. My previous cart...
Confused about gain: phono + pre, or just phono? www.kabusa.comClick on phono preamps at the top of the page and then scroll to the bottom of that page for the "phono preamp parameter calculator".That gives you the ideal gain number for the phono preamp. Unless you are running a passive preamp, ...
Question on Cardas Frequency Sweep & burn in LP I like the Cardas record. As far as break in, I won't even consider listening to a cartridge without running each of the sweep tracks for about 20 minutes each, an hour in total. With 3 different cartridges, there have been 2 different results. Easy tonearm replacement for Empire 598? Nothing wrong with the Empire arm if it is in good condition; just needs the right low compliance cartridge. The Denon 103/103R is the perfect match for that arm. The hotrodded versions of those cartridges can compete with the very best.Might be wo... |
