Esoteric DV-50: Any cdp's Significantly better?
Luke, thank you so much for your offer to contribute without being argumentative. For this very reason, I may decide to ignore the fact that you may be confusing transient response and coherence across frequency range with what you call 'timing an...
Audio Research Ref 3 Opinions
Downunder, the Ref 3 hasn't made it even to the ARC site yet. We will likely see it at CES this week for the very first time. You can expect a Mk.2 version of it in anywhere from 2 to 4 years if at all.

OK, I want it! I want it! I want it!It's time to start throwing those hissy fit tantrums with my wife--who by the way could not care less about my righteous audio yearnings!Jokes asides, the specs sound very impressive. At least on the page referr...

Where did you find info about Ref 3? the Audio Research site does not have any mention of it yet.

TBG, the great value of the shootouts is not so much in a hypothetical consensuality of the results, but in the activity itself, and the miriad of observations made during it. I find it perfectly acceptable that after the current round the team se...

TBG, if the Chicago gang and its remote members find them enjoyable, rewarding, uplifting, revealing, exciting, an a welcome escape from dayly drudgery etc. . . the shootouts are useful, at least to them/us. In life very few things are actually fo...
Esoteric DV-50: Any cdp's Significantly better?
Just wanted to point everyone to a new thread just started, comparing X-01 with Emm, Teac P01, as well as the newest top of the line Sony and Denon players. Please see:http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?ddgtl&1104558827&openmine&z...

TBG, you are an eternal optimist! With stock units a comparison is likely to last six months, but with the speed that moders evolve their creations, the technological Darwinism in these devices have made comparisons valid for 6 to 8 weeks at most....
Pass X350.5 vs Rowland 302
Muralman, you may very well be right about 302's power supply. I need to call Rowland in January and will ask them about it. I'd be in fact very interested in finding out about the performance difference between H2O Signature monoblocks and Jeff R...
Pass X350.5 vs Rowland 302
According to the respective web sites, the Pass Labs X350.5 has a max output current of 20 Amps, the Rowland 302 has a max output current than 45 Amps. In theory at least this should mean that it can drive better difficult loads. For what it matte...
Pass X350.5 vs Rowland 302
Muralman, the Rowland 201 and 501 use digital power supplies. The 302 uses a custom analog switching power supply as far as I know. That is why it weighs over 90 lbs instead of less than 20.

DBLD, that may be an inherent problem with lower end transport. That is one of the reasons why I am so attracted by machines that use the VRDS transport mechanism. I am excited to see what Alex comes up modifying the UX-3, and hope the other modif...

Thank you Metralla, your new info is very welcome. It adds a whole new twist to the field of moded units.
Esoteric DV-50: Any cdp's Significantly better?
SPRINGBOCK10: the EMM DAC/pre was optimized to work with the EMM transport. Unless you wait for the transport, you will never know whether the pair will work and do magic for you.
Esoteric DV-50: Any cdp's Significantly better?
Springbock10, yours is the $64B question. Moded units are not balanced, except for one APL3910 version which has XLR active outputs. Not a classic balanced design with duplicate circuitry, though: the 'balance' signal is created through phase spli...
