APL 3910, Exemplar 3910, MF KW, Esoteric X-01?
Smilin, in wat other league are the modded machines? you are not telling us what the base league is. More specifically, have you compared these leading modded units with such machines as the Teac X-01? As already mentioned in passing, a personal l...
DK Design Group X-Dream - wow
Very good point JAX2, in fact the aforementioned brazza, was thusly called for being held by the 'brazzo' or arm in vernacular Italian, as opposed to the 'viola da gamba', to be held on or among one's legs. This was also called simply 'gamba' in t...
VAC Ren II, VAC Phi, or ARC Ref 3?
Just a small update on my auditioning plans. I am currently waiting with bated breath for the Austin weather to become more reasonable so that I will be able to keep the system turned on without the danger of poaching. Probably another three weeks...
24-bit 96-kHz remastering of classical
I have just discovered the RCA Living Stereo remasters. Currently listening to them on Redbook, as my SACD player is 60 days away as we speak But even with CD equipment, I was stunned by the relative grace and unagedness of the Piatigorsky recordi...
DK Design Group X-Dream - wow
Of course, a much more erudite moniker would be Brazzaman, from the original Italian Brazza, standing for 'viola da Brazzo', then 'viola da braccio' in more modern guises. the German 'Bratche' is but a typical transalpine translitteration. But Ess...
24-bit 96-kHz remastering of classical
TexasDave, you should give a try to the hybrid CD/SACD of Antonin's Dvorak's Cello Concerto, performed by Piatigorsky on the cello and conducted by Charles Munch on RCA. Even on the CD track there is NOTHING light nor artificial about it. To me it...
Audio Note M6 vs ARC Ref 3 Preamps...
Musicdesign, while I have no experience with Audionote, I have auditioned the ARC Ref 3 very recently, and found it compares EXTREMELY favorably with the more expensive VAC Renaissance Signature II. I have posted my detailed findings starting at:h...
APL 3910, Exemplar 3910, MF KW, Esoteric X-01?
Has anyone A/Bed the current leading moded units based on Denon 3910 and follow ons with the Teac Esoteric X-01? I have A/Bed the older APL 1000 and X-01, but that is not a fair comparison, being the APL 1000 based on older Philips hardware.
VAC Ren II, VAC Phi, or ARC Ref 3?
What, VAC now indulging in mass crypto-rolling-updates just sneaked in without proper approvals for the unforgivable deviation from the quinquennial product cycle plan? You mean ARC is not the only company guilty of such unrestrained outrages? And ...
APL 3910, Exemplar 3910, MF KW, Esoteric X-01?
I agree with Michael's suggestion. Take the units you seem to like best home for a spin if possible at all. I personally adore the Teac Esoteric X-01, -- audio-only brother of the UX-1--which not having video output and no DVD support, has been op...
APL 3910, Exemplar 3910, MF KW, Esoteric X-01?
Smilin, why would APL 3910 not be in price range? I thought that even now with all the latest upgrades, like the AKM DAC board, price is c.ca 6K, which is less than most CDs mentioned in the original post.
VAC Ren II, VAC Phi, or ARC Ref 3?
John, in spite of the fact that I have to limit my listening to no more than 90 minutes per night because my JRDG 7M amps seem to be winning the nightly battle with 7 tons worth of air conditioning units, I have in fact been busy enjoying my music...
Accuphase DP-100 DC-101 Sleeping Giant Or Dinosaur
Jay_douglas_287@msn.com, are you speaking from personal experience with the DP-100/DC-101 combo in particular? Or are you drawing your conclusions based on experience with some other Accuphase players? Please let us know the details.
APL 3910, Exemplar 3910, MF KW, Esoteric X-01?
I have heard the Teac X-01 several times, both at dealerships and at a friends home. In all cases I found it to be very impressive. You will see some of my findings at:http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?ddgtl&1090867688&openfrom&3...
VAC Ren II, VAC Phi, or ARC Ref 3?
I understand your concern perfectly DownUnder, dealing with a company at the globe's antipodes is not my cup of tea either. That's exactly one of the reasons why I have not included Supratech in my quest for my ultimate linestage.
