Spectron Musician 3 First Impressions?
Thank you Radicalstuff, excellent info. Please do keep us posted as the sound develops further. I wonder how many hours of break in are required for Spectron to yield its very very best performance? Some other switching amps that I have had the op...
Review: NuForce 9 V2 SE Amplifier
Thank you Stltrains. I have experienced that NuForce is not the only amp that exhibits a curious anomaly in the high treble when not completely -rebroken' in. In my system I am also running a Rowland 312 -- my very favorite amp of record. This is ...
Review: NuForce 9 V2 SE Amplifier
Drubin, I clearly stand corrected on Eichmann binding posts. . . I did not realize they have dust caps. . . my eyesight is not what it used to be 40 years ago. . . (chuckles!) but I should have had the common sense of checking with Jason at NuForc...
Review: NuForce 9 V2 SE Amplifier
I have had the opportunity of evaluating the excellent NuForce 9 V2 SE in my system. My system was configured as follows: TEAC X-01 Limited, JRDG Capri, NuForce 9 V2 SE, Vienna Mahler 1.5 speakers. ICs are AQ Sky XLRs, NuForce are powered via Card...
Power factor correction
I can't give a highly technical description, but there appear to be at least 2 ways to do Power Factor Correction. It is my understanding that in a passive unit, a network of fast capacitors creates a reservoir or buffer of steady AC current capac...
Rowland PC1 PFC on Capri pre early findings
Excellent Dave, keep us posted. It's almost time to start a dedicated thread on the Continuum 250/500 integrated amps. I am just waiting for JRDG to post some official info on the jeffrowland.com site. In answer to Pinkus, my initial comparative f...
Rowland PC1 PFC on Capri pre early findings
Dave, when you think that in a Continuum 500 there is inside the rough equivalent of a Capri + 2 501 monos + the equivalent of 2 PC1s. . . G.
Rowland PC1 PFC on Capri pre early findings
Dave, apparently your upcoming Continuum 500 will contain a PFC circuit capable of delivering 1500W at 385V DC of continuous current. By comparison, the external PC1 delivers 750W continuous.
Rowland PC1 PFC on Capri pre early findings
Some more data/info trickling in from JRDG. . . estimated break in for Capri as well as for PC1 is at least several hundred (500?) hrs. As Capri draws only 6W, real breakin time for PC1 may actually be longer than 500 hrs. Capri output impedance i...
Rowland PC1 PFC on Capri pre early findings
I have tried two different power chords on PC1 this far:1. Cardas Golden Reference -- Reasonably extended, but oddly enough, sounding slightly dry, without the low level detail nor the staging I am seeking.2. Purist Anniversary -- more extended at...
Rowland PC1 PFC on Capri pre early findings
Branimir, you are correct, spoke to JRDG today. 300 series rowland amps implement some form of regulated switching power supply fed by a power factor correction circuit (PFC). In answer to Bill, Continuum 500 also has switched and regulated power ...
Rowland PC1 PFC on Capri pre early findings
Hi Tom, I believe the PC1 outputs a static voltage. Capri has an autosense switching power supply. It requires no voltage/frequency adjustment for WW operation. I do not know the internal operating voltage of the Capri. Guido
Rowland PC1 PFC on Capri pre early findings
Hi MrB, I am not sure about power supply in Continuum 500. I'll find out and will let you know ASAP. . . . probably in a dedicated thread. . . no worry though, I'll create a link from this one.
Rowland PC1 PFC on Capri pre early findings
TPY, I have heard some of the Linn electronics at RMAF last Fall, although not on the same system where I heard JRDG. I am getting the impression from LINN of a slightly different 'house sound', perhaps a little more forward/leaner than the JRDG g...
ARC Ref 3, Rowland Concerto, or Capri line stage?
I am now feeding the JRDG Capri a steady diet of 384V DC through the JRDG PC1 PFC unit with very intriguing initial results. I have just started a new didicated thread if anyone were interested. . .http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?aamps&...
