Who makes the least expensive Tube Pre-Amp?
MY only advice to our "host" was to try a tubed preamp.I think, for the same dollar, you get better sound from tubes than SS. Maybe solid state starts to sound better once you get beyong your Bryston, perhaps toward some upper end Levinson or Rowl...
Who makes the least expensive Tube Pre-Amp?
Marakanetz,Does this mean that the CJ PV-10AL that retailed for $1k is not a good design? What about Rogue 66, readily available for less than $1k?What about one of several AR preamp models, again readily available for less than a kilobuck? What abo...
In wall power cabling- for Apartment Dweller
Thanks guys!I appreciate the help.ALso, what, if any info, have you guys seen on regenerators and negative physical effects and humans? The PS audio, according to some old ad copy, was supposed to be, essentially, a power amp that puts out energy a...
In wall power cabling- for Apartment Dweller
OK, 4yanx, in your opinion, will dedicated power lines to my box sound worse than having all my gear AND all other outlets and lights, fans, etc, on the same circuit?Maybe you'd agreee that I should just get a walkman?!?!Obviously, there is someth...
In wall power cabling- for Apartment Dweller
Ok, I live in a house that I rent, not an apt complex.Thanks.
Who's to blame for the Grain??
I started out like you.I had Polk speakers, a Sony ES receiver, and a cheap-ass sony CD.I added a Parasound HCA 1000A amp, and used the sony as a preamp. Better sound. At some point, I bought a Parasound CD player, to replace the Sony. Better sound...
In wall power cabling- for Apartment Dweller
THanks guys.My inquiry was directred at what in-wall cable to use.I was planning on just running 2 lines, 1 analog (TT, phono preamp, and Integrated amp) and one Digital (CD, SACD/DVD/CD). I don't have any monster amps, should I just get 2 15 amp ...
'lateral' move - help
Per the Bass hump, of course, you can never get perfect sound in a bad room, but some careful moving will minimize the bass problems. Try listening to one speaker at a time, in an assemetrical room, chances are, it is coming from one speaker. Try ...
New batch of Albert Porter's cryo treated Hubbells
Yeehaa!Thanks again Albert!!!
Hi-Fi wanna-be needing advice on an Amp purchase
I am biased toward tubes. But I have similar beginnings. My first "hifi" purchase was a pair of Polk s-10 speakers.I later upgraded to the rt-10, then the rt-800. At some point inthere I sold my mom's Onkyo rack system to purchase a demo Sony 808ES ...
Looking for an amazing preamp under $700 used
PV-10ALNo loop, no remote, 2 tubes. Really, Really nice. My first tubed piece. 4 years later, I'm 100% glass and gas.
Can I get "Great" used speakers for $1800??
B&W Nautilus 805, JM Reynaud Trente, Merlim TSM-Milennium.All of these are bookshelf speakers, but I've had all in my home (Trentes right now). EXCELLENT sound. All of these are Musical, Accurate, with incredible soundstaging and imaging, and t...
EL34 used in Rogue M120 as driver tube????
I have a ROgue Tempset, and after consulting with the guys at Rogue (best customer service I've ever experienced) I decided to give them a try. The mids are a bit richer, using ElectroHarmonix El34s than the EH 6550 (I love this tube) but since I ...
Tube Amp Burn-in
I think that perhaps it would be close. Certainly more than 20 HRS, but, since you're talking tubes, which have to be replaced, I'd just let it break in over time, and not leave it playing 24/7.I've heard that Transformers and power supply parts s...
B&W 805 Sig Problem.
That sounds strange.also, I don't understand "tweeter cap sticks out about 1/2" on the right side of every speaker".People may net really understand what you're describing (as I don't)Regardless, you're not going to be happy with the flawed speake...
