Who are the most underground high-end companies
If I hear about it (and especially if I own it), it is no longer under the radar. Seems more common in Europe or Japan. However, if I can suggest a three names that have not been mentionedBurgessBorder PatrolAncient Audio
What are you favorite artists and songs to listen to on your system?
I used to listen to mostly classical and occasional classic rock. Still listen to a lot of Bach, but recently have been listening to more and more jazz. (I can recommend almost anything by the Tord Gustavsen Quartet or the Helge Lien Trio or the T...
Audio - Post Divorce
Get a girlfriend (not a wife). Live in separate houses. Buy her a good rig (or two) and keep buying her CDs. Make sure that you own music that she loves. Problem solved.
Amps which are Great, but either Unknown or Underpriced
1) Agree on the Yamamoto A-08s. However, speaker matching is crucial. I found that it did not have enough drive for my Zu Definitions - perhaps, in part, because of very long speaker cable runs. But a steal at the price. Gorgeous to look at. Impec...
Zu audio advice
synthfreek - I suggest that you call Zu anyway. You would not be wasting their time. Just be honest that you are looking to buy pre-owned. Zu often has pre-owned speakers available - ones taken in trade during an upgrade.
Zu audio advice
As I mentioned in an earlier post: "Zu offers a generous in-home audition program. I suggest that you give Zu a call; they are always happy to talk with prospective customers." My personal experience is that the only way to audition or compare sp...
Zu audio advice
I agree with DentDog regarding Zu Def 4s. (No, I have not spent time with other Zu speakers.) In part, the Def 4s take on the character of the amplifier that is driving them. I have heard them with SET, low powered SIT, and even moderate powered S...
Have you ever spoken with a designer or audio engineer
I have met the designers of my electronics - Jarek Waszczyszyn of Ancient Audio - and speakers - Sean Casey of Zu Audio. (Also Vu Hoang of Deja Vu Audio when I owned one of his amplifiers.) It is one of the pleasures of this hobby and dealing with...
Zu audio advice
I have Zu Definition 4s and am very pleased. IMHO, nothing is as good as in-home speaker audition - regardless of the brand and model. . . and Zu offers a generous in-home audition program. I suggest that you give Zu a call; they are always happy ...
Where did you sink the most cash into?
CD collection.
Your experience as Yamamoto owner?
Definitely a steal. There is also an ad for a pair of PP 45/2a3 monoblocks. Unlike Yamamoto gear, cosmetics are very utilitarian.
Best near wall high end speaker
I have my Zu Definitions close to the rear wall. And I would also echo the Audio Note recommendation; they are designed for near rear wall placement. Another much less expensive option would be a used pair of Celestion SL-700s if you can find them.
Calling all SET fans
And, unless I am mistaken, Tekton has a generous in-home trial period.
Your experience as Yamamoto owner?
As others have noted, the DejaVu website leaves a lot to be desired. It does not come close to describing the range of gear that they have available - including their own equipment. Visit the shop or send an email or call them. Despite the absence...
