Oh man, I broke my class D amp. Make fun of me. Then help.
Just open the case and with a magnifying glass and flashlight see if anything is obvious such as a burned resistor.
Upgrade Thiel CS3.6 or McIntosh AMP
I have the 3.6's and had them for over 20 years. As I upgraded the front end over the years (from Adcom separates to the Levinson 20.6's and 23.5) the 3.6's sounded better and better. Personally, I think that you will not find a speaker worthy of ...
Time for dedicated outlets!
Use 10/3 romex, not 10/2. The 10/3 feeder has a full size insulated ground and the wires are twisted which goes a long way in rejecting common mode noise while the 10/2 wires are parallel and acts like an RFI antenna. The added cost of the 10/3 wi...
How would you get into the biz?
It's exactly the same as the restaurant business -- it's something everybody can do but not do well. Speakers are just boxes with drivers with simple electronics that cookbooks can tell you how to put together. But then you have to deal with the h...
Electrical Panel Grounding
Is the sub panel in the same building as the main panel or is it in an unattached garage? What do you mean "with its own earth ground"? You cannot -- in the same building -- run a separate grounding conductor from a sub panel to a location other th...
Tile floor! Help!
I would suggest a large area rug with an acoustic pad underneath and spike the speakers on the rug. Otherwise any gains you get with coupling to the tiles would be destroyed by the floor reflections from the bare tile IMO.
Very Bad purchase from upscale audio Acoustic Zen Adagio
As long as you contacted Upscale about the DOA tweeter within 48 hours after you received the speakers, then inform them that you are expecting them to honor their end of the terms and conditions as posted on their web site. They are obligated to ...
Power an amp and component with batteries instead of direct outlet power?
It's not a question if it works but if it will sell. That is always the answer to "Why not do..."
Home Wiring Improvements For Better Quality Sound
A word of warning: those compression lugs on the service entrance conductors are live even if the main breaker is switched off. This is a job ONLY for a qualified electrician.
home circuit breaker - good idea or not to increase to higher amp fuse?
Take a look at the mains fuse rating on your amp and you will see that it's much less than 20-amp. That limits the amperage draw to the amplifier and it would make no difference if the breaker and wiring to the amp handles 20, 30 or whatever amps.
Quality of outlet not directly powering equipment important?
If you remove receptacle 1, are the rest of the outlets still powered? If so, then the receptacles are pig tailed and the first three are not in the chain to the equipment outlet or to each other. They are bypassed by wire nut connections. So if y...
Insane ground loop; anybody wanna try?
Did you try changing tubes?
Can't tell,if my house is properly grounded
I second Erik's suggestion of having a tech look at it. There is the possibility that a safety cap in the receptacle is leaking ac, especially the one from N to ground. If the fuse blew with that extension cord, it's possible you reversed polarity...
They Almost Never Quote A Price , Why?
I just looked at websites that make wood glue... and noticed they don't state prices either. They redirect you to retailers instead. It probably has to do with the manufacturer not selling direct rather than snobbery.
Why are Harbeth speakers expensive while its drivers are not.
The simple answer is if they sold it at a lower (or higher) price, the decrease in revenue would not make it economically feasible to produce the speaker.Selling at a lower price decreases revenue and creates a higher demand. Selling at a higher p...
