One Amp To ‘Rule’ Them All....
The same amplifier will sound different with different speakers and the same amplifier and speakers will sound different in different rooms. So how is "standard" then defined?
Dumb lo-fi question.
The amplifier will still be rated at 25 watts per channel no matter if one or both pairs of speakers are connected. The sound output level will correspond to 25 watts of power being consumed. If one pair is connected and playing at full power, the ...
Cat SL1 Preamp
It most likely was the Honeywell AML91LA73. It is expensive at about $6.50 each and it doesn't last any longer than any other 73 bulb. The reason it's expensive is because the base is tinned for soldering.I purchased a 10-pack of bulbs from Amazon...
Does streaming defy the laws of physics?
If anything is lost in that transmission you will hear a drop out or a discontinuity in the music, not a change in the sound.
Help! Power question
Surge protectors do not guard against voltage sags, they absorb the punch of a voltage spike. Do the lights dim? Not just a tiny bit, but a lot. If that is the case, then have the electrician to check -- in addition to the HVAC contractor's wor...
Which amp will cause a larger increase in electric bill?
My 100W class A Levinson 20.6 mono draws 500 watts at idle (4 amps measured at the breaker). That’s 20% efficient and it is most definitely a push-pull, not single-ended.The 100 watt Pass XA100.8 mono draws 420 watts at idle. I am pretty sure that...
Which amp will cause a larger increase in electric bill?
Class A amps draw approximately 5 times their rated power at idle (and at load). The 100 wpc SA/4e will probably draw about 1,000 watts or a kilowatt hour of electricity when it’s powered on.
Isolated Ground causes ground hum.
The problem is not the CJ amplifier, it's the extra ground. The earth is a poor conductor and that results in steady state potential in the ground -- which is the source of your humming. An extra ground is not a good idea. Lightning surges isn't th...
Dealing with a power amp that need 20A connection
What is the mains fuse rating of the amp? If it is below 12 amps you can safely use a 15-amp circuit breaker, 12 ga wire and a standard 15-amp receptacle.
Why Power Cables Affect Sound
A plausible explanation is the upgraded cable is better at filtering out RFI/EMI from getting in or out of the CD player.
Do I need a specific type of 4 gauge wire for my monoblock amp?
Usually, #4 wiring kits are good for 2000 watts and can be used with a fuse block up to 125-A, so it would be okay. If I were installing this in my car, I would use something like the Rockford 1/0 kit with a 120-A wafer fuse, especially if I were ...
$30K for 3 meters speaker!
What these super high end cable manufacturers assume is that the cables used in the recording chain are perfect. Notice they don't market their cables as bringing you 100% accuracy to the recording, mastering and pressing losses as the "original m...
Recommendation for DAC needed.
Go for the Yggdrasil. You won't find much better no matter what you spend. The best thing is that you get a 15-day trial period... plug it in, wait two days to burn it and try it out.
Marantz SA11 S2 "no Disc" "Cant read disc" errors not happy
I went through about four or five HOP1200's before I finally threw in the towel. The SA11 transport is, to put it politely, garbage.
Please help! Tube amp issue
I agree with salectric... positive feedback. Make sure that 4-ohm OPT lead is not grounded or the output will be in phase with the grid of the 6EU7.
