Dealing with a power amp that need 20A connection
What is the mains fuse rating of the amp? If it is below 12 amps you can safely use a 15-amp circuit breaker, 12 ga wire and a standard 15-amp receptacle.
Why Power Cables Affect Sound
A plausible explanation is the upgraded cable is better at filtering out RFI/EMI from getting in or out of the CD player.
Do I need a specific type of 4 gauge wire for my monoblock amp?
Usually, #4 wiring kits are good for 2000 watts and can be used with a fuse block up to 125-A, so it would be okay. If I were installing this in my car, I would use something like the Rockford 1/0 kit with a 120-A wafer fuse, especially if I were ...
$30K for 3 meters speaker!
What these super high end cable manufacturers assume is that the cables used in the recording chain are perfect. Notice they don't market their cables as bringing you 100% accuracy to the recording, mastering and pressing losses as the "original m...
Recommendation for DAC needed.
Go for the Yggdrasil. You won't find much better no matter what you spend. The best thing is that you get a 15-day trial period... plug it in, wait two days to burn it and try it out.
Marantz SA11 S2 "no Disc" "Cant read disc" errors not happy
I went through about four or five HOP1200's before I finally threw in the towel. The SA11 transport is, to put it politely, garbage.
Please help! Tube amp issue
I agree with salectric... positive feedback. Make sure that 4-ohm OPT lead is not grounded or the output will be in phase with the grid of the 6EU7.
Caps and Tubes
You can get a new set of tubes from Upscale Audio. They're a little bit expensive but they have good quality tubes and if you contact them they will be very helpful. If you don't know how old the original tubes are, then it's a good idea to get a ...
Dedicated electrical lines
Your house is at least 140 feet long? I’m impressed. The material alone for three 140 ft-plus circuits is almost $500 if you buy it yourself. What the job will cost is hard to say. Depends if the electrician is going to do the carpentry work.I am a...
Stranded vs Solid Copper
You can use Wiremold, would look a lot neater IMO than EMT tubing. Use the starter box over the outlet, then run the channel housing the bare conductors along the wall on top of the floor moulding and up to a Wiremold surface box that holds the HG...
When should caps be replaced?
For the power supply cap gone bad, you will hear a 120 hz hum;Crackling and popping noises from the speaker can be bad electrolytic caps in the tone circuit (balance, bass, midrange, treble); A bad electrolytic cap on the feedback circuit can pro...
Question about Schitt Gumby dac
I have the Yggdrasil (same muting relay circuit): I use an Aurender N100H and a Theta Data Basic II. Both do not engage the muting relay when paused/resume. I also have a CEC TL-1 and I’m almost sure that didn’t click during pause/play either.
When to replace preamp tubes?
It depends on the preamp, some of them are tougher on tubes than others so you really can’t get a definitive answer. You can install new tubes from the same date batch for each channel and one will give it up after 6 months while the other can sta...
Accuracy vs. Enjoyment
There are two types of accuracy:"Accuracy #1" can only be obtained if your system is the exact same system the recording engineer or artist uses before they release the CD or LP because that is what they use to tweak their artwork. Not only the sa...
How to guess the volt-amp rating of the transformer in my amp
You could also multiply the mains fuse rating by 120 and that'll be in the ballpark.
