Best Sounding Bruckner Recordings
My initial recommendations would be:Symphony No. 9: Honeck, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (Reference Recordings). This is a very good performance in excellent sound. Not only that, but in the liner notes Honeck breaks down the score bar by bar wit...
Why did Parasound discontinue the Halo JC-1 monoblock amplifiers?
Another reason may be that monoblocks aren’t practical anymore. With SMD technology, passive components and transistors take up a lot less real estate and you can put a lot more amplifier in one case. Less production cost, inventory, packaging, et...
What is the best sounding Mahler symphony cycle?
An excellent series so far is Francois Xavier-Roth on Harmonia Mundi, sonics and performance.
Installed bulk foil resistors in phono amp
I agree, it’s a very significant upgrade to lower resistor noise and inductance . I removed the resistors in the signal path in my Levinson 20.6’s and replaced them with Vishay VAR foils.
Thiel Owners
I have a pair of 3.6's that are now 25 years old (nothing I heard in all this time makes me want to retire them) and I am concerned about old age issues. Have any of you had problems with the drivers?  I am wondering if it is a good idea to take a...
Help please, I think I have RF or EMI problem
What I would first do is check all electrical point connections to make sure they are tight -- the wire connection on that light switch, pig tail wire nuts, etc., then I would go to the panel and check the tightness of the breaker/wire connections...
Amp tripping circuit breaker.
Call in an electrician. The breaker may be doing its job, that is, there could be an arc fault somewhere in the circuit. Did you nail anything to a wall over that time period?
Mark Levinson 20.6 Failing
I have had the 20.6’s for over twenty years and I had the exact same problem. If the amp is on and the LED is red, that means the voltage rails have power. Cold heat sinks mean the current source from the positive rail through the driver stage has...
Synergistic Research Orange Fuses
SR offers a 30 day full refund return policy. I don’t see the point of this thread; you can try it for yourself risk-free.
Bulding Cabinets, Binding Posts, and Speaker Wire ???
You could use a pcb or a bus bar. Drill two holes in the bar and place one hole on the binding post and secure with a (secondary) nut/washer. In the other hole put the inside binding post and likewise secure with a nut washer. Back to back bind...
Electrical/mechanical representation of instruments and space
The microphone acts no different than your ear drum or speaker cone. How a single cone produces overtones is simple. Say you are listening to a 20 hz tone. The speaker cone moves back and forth 20 times a second. For a 100 hz tone it’s a hundred t...
Capacitors for HP filters in tube amps recommendations?
Those frequencies are mHz, not Hz (0.080 and 0.175) . Why you want to cut off below 80 to 175 hz?
Amps with meters ...
I like meters. They look like little conductor's batons keeping in pace with the music.
Help with Sonus Faber Extrema issue
I hear you, George, but it happens with two amps. I guess the way to be certain is to repeat the failure mode, turn off both amps and immediately measure the resistance across both speaker's terminals and compare. If one is way higher than the oth...
Help with Sonus Faber Extrema issue
I agree with the crossover problem. There is a power resistor in series with the tweeter. If it is failing, the resistance rises with temperature and the signal voltage is converted to heat instead of music.Explains why it's only one speaker, happ...
