Thorens TD 125 MK II speed problems
Weiserb,Does the Linn LP 12 work well with pitch control? Any limitations on cartridge choice?I read on the web that the Linn table has interesting sound characteristics, compared to other brands. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks,Gritingrooves
Thorens TD 125 MK II speed problems
Thanks for your feedback, Weiserb. I'm looking into this, need to find the local price for the LP 12, etc. Seems like it has a good pitch control setup. Right now my biggest Thorens problem is that the pitch control is too sensitive (after adjustm...
Correct belt size for Thorens TD 125 MK II
Some burglars dropped it a long time ago. Who knows why the pulley is messed up. I really didn't pay attention to the speed problem till I started recording digitally. The turntablebasics.com is where I see the 21.2 option (FM 21.2). I emailed Tim...
Correct belt size for Thorens TD 125 MK II
Dekay,Thanks for your feedback. I assume you mean 2 cm wide. ;-)You said your belt is "well used", and bigger than the larger size I mentioned, but close. I'm new to this issue, so I don't really know how fast these belts wear out, and how they af...
Rega P3-24, RB300 and Grado Gold... VTA
Wow, shame about this mat/spindle situation. One good thing about my Thorens is that the spindle is on the thick side - sometimes I've had to use a pencil to widen the record hole so it would fit onto it without undue pressure. That means some war...
Rega P3-24, RB300 and Grado Gold... VTA
Thanks for your input, folks. Last night I came across this URL, which puts a positive "spin" on using a Grado Gold with the latest P3-24:http://www.lpgear.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=LG&Product_Code=REGA03&Catego...
DC Offset with Bias Peak and USBPre A/D converter
Today I did a test with Audacity for OS X and Cool Edit for Windows. I opened files that give me the meter problem in Peak and removed the DC Offset. When Peak opened the files I had modified in Audacity and Cool Edit, it metered the sound correct...
VTA for arm vs VTA for cartridge
I contacted Grado, and got the feedback that "cartridge must be parallel to the record". Guess the tone arm requirements are secondary. So, at least according to the cart maker, that is my starting point.

Sorry, meant to use this URL at the end:http://vtaf.com/index.html
VTA for arm vs VTA for cartridge
Thanks, folks,Stringreen, and all of you, points well taken. The motivation for taking on this hassle has been as sense that I was not getting the best sound, and apparently missing bass was the main clue. I certainly am listening to everything (c...
Cartridge problem, phono warm up? Other problem?
Thanks, Dougdeacon, I'm checking this out. I use a Nitty Gritty to clean each record side (clean with dishwashing liquid and warm water if the record is needs it) but for the stylus I've just uses a 'brush' and some distilled water.
Deep scratches on vinyl-bad for stylus?
Ha, I just posted a similar question, not having seen this one in time (googled it didn't come up).I'm glad to hear the comments above. I've recorded (to digital about a dozen or so old blues and rock records that have some serious scratches in th...
Static on Vinyl
A Nitty Gritty record cleaner may help. The way it works is you liberally apply a cleaner/distilled water mix to the surface of the record with a brush. Then, you rotate the record with the vacuum running to pull off the liquid and dirt. If you do ...
