Avalon Eidolon and CAT JL2
If your question extends to people who've used CAT+Eidolon in the past(rather than own it now), I had chosen a CAT Signature pre. AFAIR short-listed pres included a Goldmund and a Hovland. And the sound had a liberal dose of dynamics (that I like) ...
Can the Vendetta be updated?
Forgive my asking the obvious but, why not ask Curl himself? I think he's posted here and he's certainly posted at AA.In direct answer to yr question, I don't know how much arm twisting (and bank support) would be required. Cheers
Best undiscovered speakers on the market today ?
Maybe not quite "undiscovered" but Linkwitz's Orion is an outstanding design. No, unfortunately, I don't own a pair:)
my cd player makes a clicking sound
You probably just have to clean the mechanism (don't go overboard with solvants -- just use alcohol) and then relube it with grafite lubricant. If you DON't feel sure about this, get a technician to do it. You must NOT touch the laser lens.Cheers
An observation about "Modern" classical music.
For Shostakovich Quartets try the Borodin Q version on Melodiya.
Best treble unit - replacement for Audax HD12X9D25
My response to yr other post applies here too -- BUT, possibilities here are more open. Check out the parametres of yr Audax (google it) and look for a suitable replacement -- i.e. a tweet that has similar, if not identical, characteristics. The ta...
Best lower midrange unit - replacment for KEF B110
Dcaudio, there's no such thing as "best" midbass unit. You have to choose one that fits yr spkr design/application -- electrically and otherwise.Check out possible replacements for B110 at Madisound and Wilmslowaudio (wilmslowaudio.co.uk)
Budget speakers for Orchestral music?
I listen to orchestral music too. Bearing in Qualia's comment above, yr 12 Watts, and Mechans' astute ideas, I would caution you that a 90db spl rating is hardly enough; ~100 is more the ticket. So, Mechans gives excellent pointers.OTOH, why not c...
ZYX Universe, Dynavector XV-1s, vdH Colibri, ??
I think one should buy TWO tonearms. One for each channel. Better extension, more authoritative sound, etc.
About Lugnut -- Patrick Malone

Problem with Cain and Cain Abbys
Now that's what I call thinking out of the box! Good for you, Dl!
Thinking outside the bean
Anyone know of a stovetop espresso maker with remote? I've been something of a purist till now, with a vintage (heavily modded) Bialetti powered by a cryo'd gas stove -- BUT am getting long in the tooth as they say. So a remote would be welcome......
Symphonic Line
Cheers Bombay!Electronics have good PS and careful in/output stages and preserve phase integrity, esp cdp & amps (hence, comments such as "fast", "excellent bass", "drive anything" etc). The bigger amps, such as Bombay's excellent rg4, go easi...
Is There A Moveable Base To Easily Voice Speakers?
Depends on the floor. If hard, use coins under the spikes and slide along. If rug, you;re in for tough times!
Kharma Midi vs. Sonus Faber Stradivari Amati
Branimir I can well imagine a small room w/out treatment would invariably excacerbate those Audio technology units the Strads are using. Even with treatment, one probably wouldn't be able to keep the spkrs spaced out enough to clear the sound...As...
