Utah 18" driversw/ alnico magnets
Eldartford: "Why is (alnico) such a big deal today" Mostly because it's expensive now and not very commonly found in drivers.
Lack of vinyl bass and midrange
It's probably the load. Try a higher value at the phono input.Another, (unlikely) cultprit is the phono gain. Not enough. But I expect you've already checked that out.
Can IC's and Speaker Wire drastically affect bass?
1) Have you fed yr room dimensions into a room modes s/ware to see where nulls are (try Rives' site)?2) Try positioning the spkrs @ 1/4 the way into the room3) Check spkrs' internal polarity as suggested; use a small battery, the + pole should pus...
Utah 18" driversw/ alnico magnets
Utah used to oem relatively inexpensive raw drivers for trusonic (among others). Commendably they insisted on using alnico for the magnets (an excellent thing to do, and nowadays very expensive). They also offered speakers I think... SO,The answer...
Reviews with all double blind testing?
ELdartford sezthe ear senses RATE-of-change of pressure (...)Have you heard any other explanationWell, 1) about 20yrs ago a french prof (forgot the name) claimed findings that the bones contribute to our perception of very high frequencies. 2) The...
Tchaikovsky symphony 5 favorite recording
Svetlanov is nice on this -- and majestic (v. large orchestra). You should compare that version to Klemperer.
Reviews with all double blind testing?
Tvad sez: I said I don't believe I can reproduce the live event. Indeed, this is what I believeOf course you can't. You can only reproduce what the recording process produced and stored on the medium used...Add to that, the imperfections & los...
Source for schematics
Maybe here or here. It doesn't seem very likely, but one can only try. Cheers!
Any Warp correction LP services available ?
There's also another product from Clearaudio -- probably selling at Clearaudio prices.
tessitura?
ASAIK tessitura is the range of sound (the pitch in a general way) of an instrument -- usually referred to in vocal -- as in, "the tessitura of the soprano...".For tubes, I dunno. What's the tessitura of a tube? A mezzosporano tube? A baritone tub...
The Schroeder has arrived
Is there a case for coming up with a TT's "compliance" figure and taking that into account? That would be acceptable for a suspended TT -- but rather nebulous in other cases I guess...:( OTOH, mass of the TT's moving parts probably play a role too...
tweeters- metal or soft dome?
As a general rule, metals will be more extended, subjectively offer more "detail" and will be "harsher". Soft domes are thought to be less agressive, the best not losing out on "detail". BUT, there's a number of variables that ultimately determine...
The most placement forgiving planar speaker?
One thing you can look at is the horizontal dispersion pattern. If it's smooth, you'll probably be able to place the spkrs reasonably easily. Speaking of which, I remember a test showing the Soundlabs had good dispersion characteristics...
The ultimate integrated amp.
What's the rest of the system (the part that's staying -- or "right-sized" as it were:))?
Best caps for speaker crossover?
Mundorf supreme /silver line. BUT, they are expensive and one MUST finalise the value required before purchasing. It's too expensive and not worth experimenting with. Also, the differences between say Mundorf and dynamicaps and some of the (v. goo...
