Martin Logan For Dummies After living with Maggies and open baffles for several years I did not like the ML bass at all. I had to damp the internal bass cabinet (every internal surface) and plug the ports on my Aeon-i's. Problem fixed but I would still love to hear a ML w...
Cambridge Dacmagic? Real improvmt or hype? Balanced would make more of an audible difference than optical vs. coax (unless you are running over 50 feet of digital). Don't buy into the Audiophool hype.
Am I nuts or what? Apple TV Great system. The Apple TV will not be a bottleneck. 99% of audiophile opinion is based on BELIEFS, not facts.
Inexpensive sub for MG12's ML subs are very hard to beat. I use the Dynamo with Martin Logan stats. Perfect blend.
ipod as source? Tried both the Onk and the Wadia digital out docks. It is a giant myth that the iPod DAC is inferior. The headphone stage is inferior. Tap the fixed audio from the iPod dock connector on the bottom of the unit. Route this trough a preamp or good h...
Have Maggie 1.6s, looking to switch it up. Try Martin Logans. Had the 1.6, MMGs, MG1, 2.5R, etc. Maggies have a nice warm sound but Logans are more transparent. The Maggie mod route is a waste of time and money IMO. Tried that many times.
TAS and the Martin Logan Source I own the Aeon-i's. The Source is fantastic for the money but will not play extremely loud in large rooms. Their transparency kills all cones in boxes at their price and even edges out the Maggies for transparency per dollar. Any good decent curre...
OK What's next with my iPod? Levy03 - to each his own. If you think pricey dacs sound better than the iPod dac, enjoy.I tried many dacs (Benchmark, NOS dacs, Wadia, etc.). But after 30 years as an audiophile I finally realized that open loop listening is more about what you w...
OK What's next with my iPod? Tried the Wadia and Onkyo digital docks. All that taught me is that the iPod Classic DAC is not nearly as bad as others have reported. IF you take the signal from the iPod dock connector and run it through a good headphone pre (Cmoy is great) the ...
Best Guitar CD Recording Since we have Steve Hackett fans here, don't miss his "Metamorpheus" release. Stunning in every way. His live CD "There are Many Sides to the Night" is also a killer live recording with lots of warmth.
behringer reference? Thanks Cwlondon. I know this doesn't pump out its claimed 230 W at four ohms but it is more than enough power for my speakers and room (180W or so). It is pretty funny to AB this amp with ones costing over 10X as much and the Behringer sounds as g...
behringer reference? Just to update a very old thread, I just tried one of these A500 amps in my system. It drives the Martin Logan Aeon-i's. I am sold on its performance. The only issue is long term reliability. However, for the price, I don't think you can beat it. ...
VMPS 626 JR I think all of the speakers mentioned in this thread are better than the VMPS.
VMPS 626 JR I borrowed a pair of the 626 JRs and found them uninvolving. They can also sound a tad bright and I didn't think the driver integration was very good. Overall I would grade them a solid "C" for their price. The speaker to beat under $1K is the x-st...
Ipod Dock with direct out????? >>This all seems like an awful lot of money and trouble to end up with something that a good music server could do for a lot less money. I guess it depends on your situation. I WAS using a SB3 but with the iTransport I can have a high end, 1... |
