Decware and “The List”
This conversation would likely make more sense if the op hadn't been edited.
Some famous reviewers have atrocious listening rooms!
Several people here seem uneducated on what actually makes a room good for music reproduction.
Preamp tube for cronus magnum iii
Thanks for the input. I too have been disappointed with the gold lion reissue, at least a little.

"Audiophile" Power Cables: The Greatest Audio Conspiracy Theory of All Time?
@joshua43214  +1
Is Magnepan still in business ?
They've been out showing off their subwoofers lately, check out audio excellence Canada on YouTube.
Tube DACs
@allanblissett volume control inside a dac is often done digitally,  and if done right causes no loss of resolution.  AFAIC tubes should be in every possible gain or buffer stage. 🙂
What is the current retail cost of your reference system?
Well, the integrated I'm using cost $20 new, in1957. But then a live birth at a hospital with an overnight stay for the mother and infant cost less, so what does money even mean? That plus speakers, laptop, dac, turntable, and cart are about $4500
Speakers with deep/powerful bass
@carlsbad  says who exactly? Lol that is one old trope. Debbie Downer, your wet blanket is ready
Vandersteen 2CE Signature III — video review on YouTube by Steve Guttenberg (1/15/2023)
So, all of you are more qualified to tell us what Steve heard than he is himself?
Is there a remedy?
Buy some automotive sound deadening material like boom mat or norez. But make sure there there isn't something loose first.
Subwoofer boom is too much for me...
Spend $10k on dsp, bass traps, diffusers, and absorption. Or, get a pair of athletic socks, ball them up and stuff them in and send me the $10k.
Best Basic CD Player (no SACD, USB, etc.)
-1 on the onkyo unless you have a separate dac. It sounds bright and hard on its own.  Yamaha would be more neutral. Absolutely didn't like the Marantz in the lower price bracket sounded synthetic. Outboard dacs are abundant, try a few.
Four Hour Tube Amp Warm-Up
Op, +1 although my amp was more like 3 hours. Or should I say at least 3 hours
