best pre -amp under 4000$ Very interesting how we all go at this hobby. I have found that the preamp is really the heart of a great system. It and the front end source have always been most important to me.I tend to mate tube preamps with SS amps for the "sound" I like the...
best pre -amp under 4000$ Based on my experiences the TRL tubed preamp named the Dude will make any system sound its best. It sounds like live music.$3500 and it easily bested every single preamp I have owned or heard in my home system by a wide margin. The other preamps s...
Anyone using the Transistor Research LabsM 225's Paul had put about 100 hours on them before I got them. I will let all on this thread know how they improve with time.Bill
Anyone using the Transistor Research LabsM 225's Here are my comments after the first two days of listening. I listened to amps for 6.5 hours yesterday and plan to listen more tonight. I leave them on so they should be settled in even more tonight. The amps are named Samson and they bear that nam...

Anyone using the Transistor Research LabsM 225's My new M225's are coming in Monday. I will post my initial comments and a full review soon. I moved up to the TRL Dude tubed preamp and M225 mono's from by S225 integrated amp.Tvad is correct as most every TRL owner knows this stuff is very specia...
The best amp for $2k tube, solid state or hybrid I have owned the Bultler and the Belles. The Belles Reference 350 is a much better amp. For solid state and $2000 the Belles Ref 350 is hard to beat. The real question now is tubes or SS. The V4's are very good and might cost closer to $2800. The ...
Should an audio system be left on at all times? My SS amp takes a day to settle in and warm up. I always keep it on and it sounds much better that way. 30 minutes does nothing at all it seems based on my past experience with SS amps.My builder also said to leave it on for best sound and extende...
mono versus stereo ampflication The TRL amps are single ended only. I have not heard a Pass Amp and understand they are quite good.
mono versus stereo ampflication Many mono's do have better power supplies & transformers etc. They are "overbuilt" to a higher level if you will.
mono versus stereo ampflication You can purchase TRL M225 monoblock amps brand new for only $5500. They put out close to 300 watts per amp and I have not heard better. The TRL stereo amp, no longer being made, beat the new $7500 CJ Hybrid (ET250S) amp by a good margin when I hea...
mono versus stereo ampflication Forgot to finish off by saying one builder's stereo amp can cetainly sound better then another's monobloc amps. Impossible to answer that part of your question without knowing the specific amps in question.
mono versus stereo ampflication Usually the builder offers mono amps as the very top offering in the line. Usually they DO offer the best parts and represent the very best effort of that builder - if offered.I know that the power supply in my mono amps will not fit into the ster...
New preamps making new claims. New stuff, the right new stuff, will run circles around the old stuff. I love old tube gear and have owned and still own some good old stuff. Fisher, Bogen etc.....For example a new ART SLA 2 amp can be had for $260 on Ebay new. It sounds so wonde...
New preamps making new claims. Looks towards the power supply. This is where improvements in sound can be massive. My TRL Dude preamp has a newly designed power supply that is amazing and brings so much more music to the sound party. The power supply is where innovation brings r... |
