Phase inverting preamps
Phild suggested switching either the leads between the preamp and amp, or speaker cables. Well, when I recently hooked up the Herron preamp (absolute polarity inverting) to the Herron monoblock amps for an evaluation I reversed the preamp to amp l...
MC cartridge with "big rich and life-like"
Much as I love my Helikon SL and Heron VTPH-MC, Markanetz, I have to side with Albertporter on this one. Benz and Koetsu are tops if one is looking for a rich, lush, romantic sound - my preference is the Koetsu.
Racks vs. furniture w/pods, points, aurios, etc?
Agree that the Rix Rax line is simply stunning, as is the price. Have you looked into Zoethecus? Also has a furniture look, and while not cheap seems to be well made. Another that you may want to check out is the Finite Elemente Pagode Master Refe...
Which is better, Lex. DC 1 or Theta Casanova
Soix's advice is spot on - given your leaning toward music it's by far the best way to go for the quality stereo, and cost effective as well. More flexible for future upgrades as well!
Are all blank CDR'S created equal ???
Ligi, presuming that your Pioneer is a consumer not professional model, you must use consumer cdr/cdrws because of copy protection. Mitsui does make consumer audio cdrs, which are available at http://www.american-digital.com/prodsite/category.asp?...
Rogue Owners Unite
Bradz, try listing the ground by using a cheater plug. I had a hum with my Magnun 120s and that cured it.
cornfedboy, signing off
Personally I don't see a conflict, now that you've explained your role with 'gon, but if this is the way you see it then "Bon Voyage" Kelly.
My first and last DIY project
If they sound as good as they look you must be very pleased. Care to share a few details?Congratulatons.
CD Recorder
I have used a Philips 880 for about 5-6 years without a problem. Not having used any others I can't say its superior to any other make in reliability, features or quality of output. Pioneer made some well reviewed units if I remember correctly. I ...
Preamp Deal of the Century
Bwhite, has Mick established any form of service support in the US, or if there's a problem does the piece have to be shipped back to him?
Preamp Deal of the Century
Thanks for the input Gunbei, I've heard that Gilbert is quite a creative guy. Just for reference, which pre-power combo were you using or compare to your BC combo before purchasing them? Thanks again, and apologies to everyone for going off topic.
Jacintha "Autumn Leaves" on XRCD2 is incredible
Agree Garfish, a great disk. And thanks Stehno for the recomendations. Hadn't thought of picking up "Flamenco Passions" because it's not the type of music I generally listen to, but now I will. Much as I like XRCDs, couldn't bring myself to trying...
Getting a Koetsu Onyx cartridge rebuilt - help
Thanks again everyone. Got side-tracked from pursuing this for awhile.I've written to Axxis Distribution asking for an estimate on what is likely to be a significant rebuild.Got mine from Sugano-san himself when I lived in Tokyo (1976-80). Quite a...
Preamp Deal of the Century
Thanks Sugarbrie, I appreciate your input. Which BC amp would your marry with the Despina or Galatea, strictly from a sonic point of view? Von Scheikert VR-5HSE speakers.Again, appreciate trading on your experience.
Can you help or do I have to get divorced?
TommyT - the Spendor S3/5s would work great. Small and beautifully finished. Sound their best on stands but can be used in a bookcase without killing the sound. Very natural; terrific mid-range. Lack low base if that's important, but given your co...
