Preamp recommendation pre amp
Hello,What about the new McIntosh 2200 tube pre amp? I thought it sounded very nice and would probably solve your current problems and would work very well with your current McIntosh amp. I also like the Conrad Johnson gear but the Mac choice may ...
Sim I-5 vs Plinius 8200.. Anybody compared them??
Hello,I listened to both back to back. The Plinius had a bigger base presentation but the Sim was more open and had a better 3 dimensional sound. It was also "sweeter" (more tube like) than the Plinius and more musical.
JM Lab Micro Utopia
Hello,I have listened to the to Micro and own the Mini Utopia. The Micro is an excellent speaker but the Mini has a larger cabinet and the base response is better and they have a "bigger" sound. It you want a lot of base you will need a subwoofer....
What AMP/PRE for Audio Physic Tempo 3i/Cary 303 CD
Perhaps a Conrad Johnson tube pre amp and solid state amp would work. I have listened to the Audio Physic's on the Conrad gear and it sounded very nice. I also have the Cary 303 CD and know it would also work well with the Conrad Johnson gear.
Best Used CD Player for 2,500 - 3,000
Hello,One player that doesn't get too much mention is the Cary players. In your price range the Cary 306 would work. I have done A/B's between the Cary 303 and the Meridian, Linn, Rotel and Rega models and clearly liked the Cary better. Let your e...
What am I doing wrong? Can't find right CD player.
I have Mac gear for electronics and am very happy with the Cary 303 cd player. Used, it would be in your price range. It is a single player but I compared it the the Rotel, Linn, Meridian, and Rega players and it was the best player for the money.
Can you help or do I have to get divorced?
I heard the Vienna Acoustics "Waltz" and they come in a variety of wood finishes. They hang on the wall and sounded pretty good. Perhaps you can sneek in a small sub woofer such as a REL Strata or Storm and you would be set.
Which direction would you go?
Mike,I have been udgrading for the last couple of years and I know what you mean about that harshness on the high end. You might consider the JM Lab speakers such as the Utopia Micro or Mini. I just bought the Mini's on audiogon and will be adding...
Your 5 Fav Rock Concerts
I guess I'm dating myself but as a kid seeing Hendrix a couple of times and later Zeppelin was musical heaven.....those were the days. It was real music and not dominated by pre recorded tape loops and electronics. These guys really had to play! W...
Are you Guys Rich or What!?
It's not about how much you spend it's the enjoyment you get from the music. When I got out of college in 1976 the first thing I bought was as car (used) to get to work and next was my first stereo system. Mcintosh solid state seperates and Dalqui...
Bass Response and concrete floors
I have used sub's on concrete floors with spikes. My experience is that the bass is tightened up and sounds very good. The floor gets rid of that flabby mid-bass and I know my sub went below 50hz.
Problems with proposed transactions?
I have bought and sold here. My experience has been very good on both sides. As a buyer you need to be specific and knowledgble and ask the right questions. As a seller I try and go the extra mile to correctly represent and package my goods. I hav...
JMLAB Electra's
Hello,I was in the same boat a few months ago. I have auditioned the 906, 926 and 936 as well as the Utopia Micro and Mini. I ended up with a pair of near new Mini Utopia's through Audiogon. Even if I got the 936's I knew I would end up with a sub...
The best CD Player for the money
I have listened to the Linn Ikemi and Rega Planet. I ended up with the Cary 303. It was better than both of these contenders in openeness, detail, image and bass resolution.
Subwoofer Options - REL, BagEnd, JMLab Electra Sub
I'm in the same boat. Looking for a sub with the Mini's. I am almost inclinded to go with the Electra since it should match well with the JM line. However the REL Storm III sounds interesting.
