DAC's Made in the USA
I use a Bel Canto. Made in USA and sounds great.  Not too hard to find in the used market.
Looking for some new floor standing speakers
I picked up my used Goldenear Triton Ones for $3000. Shouldn't be hard to find a price around there. Pretty nice speakers, I'd say. I have them connected to Bel Canto amps but you don't need 600 wpc. For your budget you might be able to find used ...
High end Class D amps?
I'm liking my Bel Canto monoblocks. They have all the power and all the detail and none of the coloration and distortion. Works for me. I have used them now with two different tube (valve) preamps. I've used them with my Acoustat speakers and it r...
Suggest an entry - midrange Preamp (tube as well as SS) for a McIntosh power amp
What inputs do you need?  You might get a DAC with preamp features, like the Bel Canto.  No TT in though.
Why is black so popular for components?
Because we can't find something darker.
Train
@roberttdid Downtown Train was written and originally performed by Tom Waits. Personally much prefer his version to Rod Stewart's. Steve Reich, Different TrainsJill Sobule Trainshttps://youtu.be/D5muMsuIf7s
No one nicer than Cardas
Second the kudos for Modwright.
What are your thoughts on the "Edsels" of the audio history?
Yeah, there was nothing wrong with the Edsel. It just wasn't the right style for the moment. Along those lines... I might suggest Pono, which was good I guess, but lacked a market. Or maybe Sony mini-discs.
My thoughts on TT isolation methods.
If you're serious you'll do what my friend did when he built his house. He poured a separate foundation for a column that goes through his floor without making contact with the floor.  So the TT sits on its own separate foundation. Try to take thi...
Advice on CD transport
I use the Cambridge CXC. It’s okay. It’s pretty picky. There are various very standard CDs that somehow don’t quite meet red book (I assume that’s the issue) that won’t play on the Cambridge. I think one is Booker Ervin’s The Freedom Book, which i...

Tubed Preamp recommendations?
I'm happy with the ModWright SWL 9.0 Anniversary Edition I added to my system a few months ago. Took a bit to get the tube selection right. Did not like either pair of Tung-Sols that came with it. Dan had me try JAN Philips and that did the trick....
Where do you buy your CDs these days?
https://www.amoeba.com/music/cd-and-vinyl/#/I try not to give money to Amazon.  I second the recommendation for discogs, too, though the site design is not awesome.
ModWright SWL 9.0 Anniversary Edition Phono Stage
Thanks mofimadness.  The suggestion is if I want to spend more I might put it into an Ortophon blue...Anyone else care to weigh in? Ooh, that's almost a pun when you're talking about turntables.
Which stereo amp to try under $30k
A nice set of Class D monoblocks might do the trick. They're not expensive enough, but you can hide them anywhere because they don't need ventilation, so you can do monoblocks and put them where the kids can't get to them. I find the Bel Cantos ve...
