What is standard ouput in V RMS of a CDP?
What Sogood said, two volts. Does your CD player have volume control? They can put out up to 5 volts at maximum, and most preamps will not like that. If so, turn the volume down until the distortion stops. Like PLato said, the manufacturer or dist...
Experiences with Nirvana Digital cable ???
Nirvana is based in NY, Long Island I think. Why don't you give them a call?
Experiences with Nirvana Digital cable ???
Sns talked about the DC-110, which is for balanced hook-ups. The Nirvana Transmission Digital cable, wtih rca connectors is an excellent digital cable, very smooth and transparent. Most importantly, it doesn't screw anything up. I've compared it t...
Marantz SA8260 Filter Switch on Rear Panel
Should one check the specifications of their amp to see if they handle the high frequencies over 20,000Hz? If their spec says: 10Hz to 40kHz, does that mean it will handle a 40,000 Hz signal from an SACD player without problems?
About Lugnut -- Patrick Malone
I am in awe of this thread, which I just discovered today. It's so great to see how many members of the Audiogon community are pulling together and supporting "Lugnut". It has brought out the best people and the best IN people posting here, as the...
smaller speaker suggestions
She thinks 24" x 12" x 12" is big?! Take her to a store and show her what "big" really is! How about down-sizing her area of the home? Like, "Get outta' my music room woman!!!" :-) You might also explain that even if you do get a smaller speaker, ...
Is the SACD Format Flawed?
Also, Moncrief went out and got a McCormack UDP-1 multi-player, which gives one pause...if SACD is so bad and DVD-Audio is pretty well dead - why bother? (Plus we went on & on & on again about how bad SACD is, regurgitating what he had spe...
Is the SACD Format Flawed?
C'mon..this guy is an eccentric wierdo. Have you read his "reviews" of Arcam stuff in Widescreen Review lately? Long, boring, repetitive, fawning crap. He runs out of superlatives, so repeats them Ad Nauseam over pages and pages and pages...in his...
Help with AC noise please
Hi,I think the really important part of this "problem" is that it may not be a problem at all. You said:" When I put ear close to the speakers I can hear what sounds like something frying in a pan" If you had to get that close to the speaker to he...
sub woofer and tubes
Hello,Yes, I would say that subjecting your tubes to vibration (through floor and air) is a bad idea. It's not so much that it will damage them, but it will screw-up your sound. Use a longer cable to the sub and move it somewhere else. Make sure t...
Best Speakers at Montreal Show this past weekend?
The Verity Audio are nice speakers, also with the Berning amps. They used an Audio Aero Capitole CD player too,and there were other Capitoles around the show, as I recall. The WLMs were excellent, very open sound with controlled deep bass and a ne...
Guitar playing audiophiles, Martin or Taylor?
Golly, this makes me wonder about what a particular Linn/Honest Records artist uses:What kind of guitar does Martin Taylor play?;-)
CES 05
Metralla reports from the Avant Garde room:"I really wanted to hear the Zanden combination, but the folks in the AvantGarde room claimed that their Zanden transport + DAC was too "green" to show off their system to the best; and they used a 32 bit...
ProAC 2.5 users please share experience on amp
Contrary to what some have tried to say here, the Proac tweeters are not "glarey" (sic). They only sound harsh with crappy equipment upstream. (CD, pre, amp or cables) I have heard them sound great with the proper electronics, including transistor...
Dogs and wobbly speakers
What kind of stands are you using? It is always a good idea to have heavy stands with a mass greater than the speakers, something you can fill with sand, silica sand, whatever. If you don't have good stands, get some. Then dogs ( and kids) are les...
