Marantz SA8260
The 8260 is not nearly as bad as some here seem to think it is. Given its price, a lot of people are putting it into systems that are - shall we say - typical of that price range. The components downstream are compromising the sound of the 8260.In...
Universal disc player
Hey Iwasgoingto,There's nothing wrong with converting from DSD to PCM. Some of the best players in the world do it, and some of the best digital engineers in the world agree that DSD is inherently noisy unless you use a lot of sound-damaging filte...
Equipment Rack Configuration..?
Assuming your list reads from bottom to top, it sounds like you're okay. TT on top is a no-brainer, and amp on the bottom makes sense, as you hardly ever have to access it, plus it anchors your rack on the bottom and gives it a lower centre of gra...
Quad Listener Contemplating Horns
I find it interesting that people seem to be focusing on your speakers as your problem. Could your problem be the source? If your cartridge and tonearm are not up to handling big dynamic passages, it won't matter what components you have downstrea...
Wich high end CD palyer?
Mark-ups on Audio equipment are NOT all that high. That is crap propogated by cheapskates who refuse to buy new equipment or to pay Retail or anything close to it based on their erroneous assumption that mark-ups are "high".You pay much higher rel...

What CDP to replace my AA Prima ?
I guess that is a really old Prima! Is it even one of the 24/192 machines?
Grado Reference vs Benz Glider and H2
Either the Glider or the H2 will work on a Rega arm. I've heard them both in the same set-up and the H2 is a superior cartridge. Timbre and detail is fabulous and noticeably better than with the Glider (which is no "slouch" itself!).
systems seems to be playing slowly, need thoughts
Also, try "rebooting" the microprocessor in the CD player. Unplug it for a few minutes then plug it back in, turn it on again and try. Power fluctuations can put them out of whack, just like a computer.
Can anything beat Vintage Amps for the $$$?
Old Dynaco amps like the ST 70 and the Mk.III monoblocs are a great deal at $300.00 to $700.00 If they have the upgraded binding posts, input jacks and newer electronic parts in them, they are fabulous! You would have to spend thousands to get any...
What CDP to replace my AA Prima ?
Does you Prima CD player have a digital output? If so, you may want to consider a used Prima DAC, which has the Capitole Mk,II d/a converter in it. It is a big step, and a logical one for your situation. There are a couple available on Audiogon ri...
ISOLATION: HRS,SYMPOSIUM,SRA,ZOETHECUS??
I was at a consumer show, in a room with the Gran Prix Audio rack. It vibrates like a dragster. That CAN'T be good! I'll take proper engineering and function over style any day...
Does anyone own the Audio Aero Prestige Monoblocks
Here is a link to an article I found when prowling around the 'Net looking for info on Legacy speakers one day. I remembered reading this piece from a guy who was trying a pair of amps, and comparing them them to others he has tried. He has the Au...
Marantz 8260 vs Musical Fidelity 3.5 vs cary 308
I am used to having very expensive CD players around - $2000.00 to $15,000.00. I also sell items for friends, so I get to audition them in my home.I sold a system for a friend, (he does that a lot, for no particular reason?!) and the Marantz 8260 ...
Soaking in pause mode improves CD transport snd?
I remember that Stereophile talked about that issue several years ago. I can't remember what, if any, conclusions or agreements resulted.
