Anyone still excited about HDCD ?
The 96/24 and 192/24 DACs in the CD and DVD players coming out now are rendering HDCD irrelevant. They make fidelity accessible without needing a "decoding" chip. I've heard HDCD discs (I have several) played on a 192/24 player that I brought home...
Amplifier match for MM de Capo i's
HiForget using a Bryston on those De Capos; those brutes don't have the finesse and warmth of a good tube amp on a speaker this efficient. You're far better-off with a modestly powered tube amp or a hybrid. (not that Cary 5 watt'er though! You nee...
Chair or Sofa? Which do you use?
An Ikea chair. You know, the bouncy ones with the wooden frame? They kinda' rock and move with you as you move with the music. I hate a chair that won't move! They are also light and easily moved out of the sweet spot when you're entertaining.Ikea...
Audio Aero Capitole MK II: Performance & Problems
Rightyo Unclejeff! That was OLD news. All of the newer Capitoles have been great, especially the ones from this year, from what I hear!!
Matching Pre-Amp for Audio Aero Capitole MKII ?
Hi,Putting another obstacle in the signal path is probably not the way to go. IF you're not getting your soundstage, it's not the fault of that CD player. I'd be looking at: - speaker positioning - cables (you didn't say whose cables you're using...
Audio Aero Capitole MK II: Performance & Problems
Make sure you didn't accidentally change the digital out option with the channel buttons on the left side of the player, or at the remote. The Capitole allows you to switch between which digital input is going to the output (direct)or from the pla...

That article in TAS is ancient history. Wilson Benesch has completely changed how they do finishes and they don't use wood anymore. It's all carbon fibre and aluminum, and that includes the ARCs. Given the money/performance ratio,($3600.00 with th...

Kr4: "Termination of the review process would deprive the reader of that valuable information. Don't you agree?"Sure, as long as that reporting applies to everybody that supplies product for review.

Good point Sean.I've seen such reviews, where the designer actually went to the reviewer's house to repair, or -ahem- "upgrade" the component to a "higher" level. Actually, if a player breaks down more than once on the reviewer, (or if it is not a...

Sorry, it was not my companies that were involved, and I'm not at liberty to name them and get them in trouble by giving details. If there are reviewers on this site and people claiming to be reviewers, they should be fully identifying themselves ...
Phono Stage
Hi,There are a lot of companies out there that put phono stages in their integrated amps and preamps, that probably shouldn't. (they stink) Making a good preamp is an art, and there are fewer people out there who really know what they are doing. S...

1) In addition to what jrd says, that would be good EXPENSIVE ads for good reviews. (in addition to other things)2) Oh ya, and I'm not going to mention names, for the same reason that it is whispered in the industry; no one wants to commit suicide...

I wouldn't trust Steropiles "Ratings". First, they haven't reviewed everything. I've heard set-ups including the high-priced so-called Class"A" components, and they sound crappy. Very prestigious, but Crappy! There are obviously Excellent products ...
