What cartridge works for you ???
I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the Rega Super Elys or Exact. If you're looking for a sure thing go for a Rega cartridge with that Rega table. They're very easy to mount, and don't require much in the way of adjusting. They also just lower...
Anybody hear of Jack Johnson?
I agree with Severum. The music is great, but the recording is really bad. It makes my otherwise good system sound like a boom box. I usually stuff somthing in the speaker ports when I play it. :)-Patrick
Hissing
You might want to try out a different CD player. The hiss on those recordings is not noticable on my system. If you can afford it demo a player 2-3 steps better than the one you're using. -Patrick
Rega Planet or Cairn Fog
Get the planet. Mine has never skipped even when people are dancing right next to it. It also sounds incredible. It's not the most analytical player, but it manages to convey emotion better than much more expensive players. -Patrick
Naim integrated compatible as a great preamp?
Naim pre-amps are designed to be used with Naim amps. They are powered by the Amp or by a separate power supply. Some people do use Naim pre amps with non Naim Amps, but it's not commom. If you like the naim sound you could try somthing like a N...
CD Player buying decisions
Every few months this question seems to pop up. I think the best deals are always on used gear. When I was looking for a new player I tried the NAD, the Music Hall, and Original Planet(used). The planet is a great Player. It really doesn't have a...
Best hi-fi salon 'round
Hawthorne Stereo in Seattle has a nice set up. The store isn't fancy, but you can get a demo with only one set of speakers in the room. This eliminates the problem of other speakers resonating with the pair being demoed. They also have a great use...
Who knows about Naim products?
The best place to get information on Naim equipment is on the Naim forum. Go to www.naim-audio.com. You'll find that there are also many site dedicated to Naim audio gear. A great place to start is this site. http://freespace.virgin.net/tony.lonor...
500 to spend on int.amp, help me match with gear.
The Rega Mira does have pre-outs. You could bi-amp it with a Rega Cursa later. Get a Planet CD player, and you'll have some great synergy going. The other nice thing about Rega gear is that it sounds good with inexpensive speakers.-Patrick
500 to spend on int.amp, help me match with gear.
You really can't go wrong with the Rega. It's very easy to listen to in the long term. It also brings out lots of emotion in the music. However any of the amps you're looking at sould provide an upgrade. You might even be able to find a Naim Nait ...

I've found the rega integrated amps to have a nice smooth sound. I've used the Mira and a friend has a Brio. There is very little difference in sound quality between the two. The mira is a little more powerful and has a remote though.-Patrick
A Great Vintage Integrated?
There is another NAD amp I liked alot. I think is was the 310. It was another variation on the 3020 theme. Also the Naim Nait 2 sound awsome with the Planet. -Patrick
Return to Audio: What Products to Consider?
Should you choose the speakers first? I belive that when you're building a system you first need to get a quality source. Put a large chunk of your budget there. Then move on to a good solid amp. If you've puchased the best sounding source and am...
Do HDCDs sound terrible on non HDCD players?
I looked at my Shady Grove CD, and it is HDCD. In any case on my Planet it sounds as good or better than non HDCD Garcia/Grisman discs that I own.-Patrick
RegaPlanet Original vs RegaPlanet 2000 vs Jupiter?
Another great thing about the rega cd players is the top loading feature. There is no motorized drawer to break. I belive the only moving part is the motor that spins the cd. The same is true With Naim Audio CD players.
