Upgrade Time Again.... please help
Cornfedboy, I have visited both the Boulder and Accuphase web sites to have a look at the amps you mentioned. I am considering moving to solid state again (tired of retubing and rebiasing at a small fortune). I am almost ready to start the search....
New Visitor Confused Over Upgrade
I thought it made you go blind, not deaf?
Sparking Ground Wire
Something is very wrong. Your electrical panel should be grounded to a ground rod somewhere. Depending on a cold water pipe for ground is not safe. I assume you have an older home. Current does flow to ground. Without ground you can not have a com...
What time do you wear?
Best watch I have is a fake Rolex I bought off a street vendor in NYC 15 years ago for $10. Takes a licking and keeps on ticking. I wear it everyday and not a single problem after 15 years. Not bad for a fake piece of crap. Outlasted my wifes Mova...
Who R U?
Retro, the woodworking is the easy part as I am finding out. I just may take you up on the advise as I get closer to designing crossovers. It's been a long time since I graduated engineering school.
Who R U?
Howdy, my name is Guy...I am a 45 year old, degreed electrical engineer. I live on Long Island, am 45 years old and have been married for 23 years. My wife and I are DINKS which is how I can afford this hobby. I also enjoy woodworking as well as t...
The best upgrade I ever made!
Dekay, any conducting metal could be used for a shield. If you are afraid of EMF's sit very far away from your TV. It gives off far more of an electromagnetic field than any isolation transformer ever could.
How about a soldering thread?
Good Job!
Shed some light on this please
IMHO, the power cord should have little or no effect on a piece of ger with a well designed power supply. If the power supply has a high ammount of filtering, rfi filtering and storage the power cord should have very little effect.
How about a soldering thread?
I recommend a good weller pencil. Get something that feels comfortable in your hands. Also, unless you have some old stuff laying around, solder these days does not contain lead. You will be able to tell a bad or cold solder joint by visual inspec...
Audio Research 100.2 amp
If you live on or near Long Island try Audio Visions in West Babylon.
How about a soldering thread?
Kitch, a fellow woodworker! Audio is my second hobby and I have built a few kits in my time. There is no real magic in soldering. As in woodworking you have to have the right tool for the job. I have seen first time kit builders try to solder comp...
Do the Audio gods shine upon you?
Gents, I think Garfish has nailed it. I think this is a real phenomina and it has everything to do with our frame of mind or mood when listening and nothing to do with our ears or systems. A good analogy would be the "clean car seems to run better...
looking for an amp ???
Tireguy, the Bat is a fine amplifier but please do not take our word for it. You mention the "real" sound of tubes; let you ears decide what is real. Everyones ears are different. Listen to both type of amps and then make your decision. Do not get...
Dedicated Power line
Jim, good show! I have read many posts throughout Audiogon where audiophiles have purchased expensive Line Conditioners and high priced power cords to allieviate a hum or noise problem. Often times these expensive accessories mask the real problem...
