Perry buys Talon Khorus The sound you are describing as wooley and colored is what the Talons sound like before they break-in. The midrange is murky and veiled. After about 50 hours, you hear substantial improvements. As Clement Perry said in his article, it takes about ...
Talon Loudspeakers I'm using an Electrocompaniet AW120 right now. It sounds really good. I was always a tube guy, so I need that richness in the midrange, which EC stuff has. I almost bought the EVo, but was discouraged by a Talon / Bel Canto dealer who said that th...
Talon Audio Khorus??? Once you get past the long break-in, these speakers are truly remarkable. It just takes so damn long to break them in. And they do not sound good until they are broken in. After that, there is nothing I've heard as good, and I have also owned many...
Talon Loudspeakers Acuujim and Philefreak! The Talons are now breaking in and sounding really good. I left them on while diving out of the country for two weeks. That was enough to break-in the mid-range drivers. The soundstaging and imaging of these speakers is bet...
Talon Loudspeakers Acuujim and Philfreak: Are you guys playing them loud? According to the designer, the surrounds of the Scanspeak midrange are an accordian type. He has been using this driver for 8 years, and knew that break-in was a very long time before they sou...
Talon Loudspeakers Bookner: I am amazed that the imaging was a problem for you. That's the one thing these things do well with no break in. Having just trade VR6s and having owned many of the speakers you mentioned (Dunlavy IVas included), I'm surprised that was you...
Talon Loudspeakers Thanks Acuujim! That's been my experience so far. I now have a pair, and the upper mids are murky. Sound staging is very good, though. I traded the VSRs for them. I hope I won't be disappointed, but a phone call to the designer convinced me he kno...
Talon Loudspeakers Acuujim: Did you buy your Khorus new? How did they sound right out of the box. I've heard a friend's, and they are constricted and wooly in the midrange. I'm told this goes away after an extensive break-in. I also own VR6s, and right now they are ...
Best Vanishing speakers Von Scweikert VR6s are the best full range disappearing act I've heard. I've had Dunlavy SCIVs, Inner Sound Eros, Pro-Ac 3.5, many more. With the Von Schweikerts, nothing comes from the speakere. Amazing.
Placette anyone have any opinions? I have a Placette active pre-amp. I have had many high end pre-amps, but this one is the most transparent. They do have a cottage industry build quality inside, but I've had mine for 2 years with no problems. Great revie in The Absolute Sound
Best and Worst customer service? VAC and Cary are also very good.
Best and Worst customer service? Thiel is excellent. I blew a tweeter in my 3.6s that was absolutely my fault. They replaced it free. Worst is Goldmund. They can only be contacted by e-mail, and it takes about two to three weeksfor them to respond. I had a problem with my SRMs. A...
Aronov Amplifiers - Opinions? I used the Aronovs with Inner Sound Eros and Von Schweikert VR6 speakers. They worked great with both. Speaker cable was Harmonic Tech Pro 9, which works with about anything. Also used Goertz Silver, which was good, but not as good as Harmonic Tech.
Aronov Amplifiers - Opinions? The Aronovs are great amps. They are rarely reviewed for whatever reason, but are really good. I have owned an ARC VT100 MK2, Vac 30/30/MK 3, Power 2, Cary 300SEs, and a bunch of high quality solid state. I also owned the Aronovs you are trading f... |
