Tube Integrated I would strongly second the Audiomat. I own the Solfege Reference which is the big brother to the Arpege and this is a line of equipment that is vastly underated.
Need speaker suggestions please I suggest you get the best pair of Audio Note AN/E or A/N J speakers you can afford (several models in the line-up). They are designed to be placed in the corners of your room are very sensitive (94-95db) and I just don't think you can do any bett...
Review: Audio Note AN-E SE Speaker Jack,Nice review.I have owned the AN/E SEC silvers for about 9 months now and you have done a great job of capturing the essence of these speakers.I tried really hard not to like these speakers because I just couldn't believe they do what they do....
which integrated?... I like the VTL tt25 suggestion, I would also look into the Audiomat line...Arpege and Solfege...very good sounding.
Isolating Vibrations I would recomend that you call or e-mail the folks at Star Sound who have the sistrum line of support products. Their products have gotten very good reviews and their theories are very interesting and informative to say the least.
Blue Gas in Tubes - Why? Is it Bad? If you go to the KR Enterprise site they will tell you this is bad and will give you the reasons (I don't recall). This is the only source where I have ever heard that this is negative but as they make tubes perhaps they have a point????
Kharma 3.1 vs. Quad 988 I have owned Quad 57's and have spent a bit of time with the 988's and have also owned Kharma 2.2's. You will not go wrong with either choice but you will not be disappointed with the 3.1's IMO. You've gotten good advice above.
Audio Note, Audio Logic, Kora Hermes Dacs ? All good choices and price may be a consideration. I am very fond of the Audio Note 3.1x balanced (which is transformer coupled). I use mine with a spectral sdr 3000se transport.
best amplifier to drive my Quad 988 speakers The above suggestion is good. A goldmund integrated ...100-150 watts would be very nice. On the tube side...some of the EL34 based amps of around 30-50 watts would sound great.
best monitor for tubes? Proac 1sc's!
Alternative to Avantgarde Uno? Look into the Lamhorns. They are a single driver of about 100db sensitivity and can use either a lowther or AER driver. They retail for about $6k...they are very good.
JM REYNAUD OFFRANDE Opinions Please I owned the Offrande's upgrading from Trente's. I thought them to be a very good speaker which did great service to the music. I think 1967 has done an excellent job of describing them. I would probably still own them but a curious 8 month old has...
Anybody have some experience with Bedini amps? I have a Bedini 25/25 that is a great combination with my quad 57's... terrififc lttle amp!
recommend a simple but hi-quality active pre-amp? Thw Wright WLA12A is a terrific tube pre for under $1000 new! No remote.
Which components knocked you out on first listen? Audio Note AN/E-SEC speakers...they just shouldn't be able to do what they do. |
