+ to the Luxman preamps thier ( most of the good ones) tone controls have cut off freq as well so you can tailor the frequency you want to cut or boost leaving the rest alone.  
Opinion - Every audiophile should build at least 1 pair of speakers

i'm not interested in the Oppo I feel for that kind of money a stand alone DAC is the way to go. and the sony is actually very good for what I need as far as picture quality and as it only outputs digital audio, I can tailor the sound to the DAC. ...

Better to solder the connection to the spade or bananas you get a much higher contact area and it will stay secure longer then a simple crimp. Also more corrosion resistant. tin'd bare wire is also good or even bare wire. In the industrial militar...

some one mentioned the IFI iphono2. I just got one a couple weeks ago as a stand in until I can afford the Manly steelhead ( saving saving). and to be honest it punches way above its price range i'm quite pleasantly surprised by how good it sounds...
