???Modern Speakers???Life Expectancy???
I have speakers ( and amps etc) that were made in the 1960-70's that after some minor updates i.e. caps they sound great. so a speaker that's only 20 years old is still young IMO.    Note sure what happened to your amp but more electronic gear c...
Streamer question
Upgrade your DAC first then consider a streamer if you need it. I really have not found a huge difference with streamers sound quality, unlike the DAC it feeds.  I've gone through 4 streamers in the last couple years and sold them all, last one w...
help me identify this amplifier
looks home made to me,  no CSA testing or certification for example. Anything sold would require testing, certification labeling. This leads me to think its not a commercial unit but a custom made unit.
Solid-state alternative to Freya +
Why not use the Freya+ in SS mode? or buy the LISST (linear, integrated solid-state tube) tube replacement's from Schiit. $50 each.  Schiit Audio: Audio Products Designed and Built in Texas and California
Focal Sopra n1 - mids are a bit recessed compared to Lumina IIs
I have had a few listing sessions with the Sopra's and kanta 2-3's over the last few weeks, in a well treated room. I agree the Sopra's midrange is recessed and the top end is tipped up. the Kanta's are not nearly as bad and are a bit wormer prese...
XLR recomendation
Just a heads up, I also have a Dave and the XLR sockets are quite small so I recommend you try before buying to make sure they fit. I'm using some AudioQuest XLR's (I believe all of theirs are the same size) that are not small enough for the sock...
Have you asked yourself this question?
I'm in a similar situation. I have what I think is a good digital source now (Chord Dave DAC, Chord Streamer) that is better in so many ways than my vinyl set up. I have not played a record in months. I don't think I've played more then a hand fu...
Prima Luna Vs Accupahse
Tubes or SS that's what your really looking at, also 48w-90w but both are fine with either.   I'd think the Accuphase will be better made and hold its resale value longer. No tubes to replace when they go, as they will.  More features in the E280...
Towers with built in subs vs separate subs
Don't those founder series also have the room correction built in? if its the same ones i was listening to a couple weeks ago they are very good, I liked them better than the Focal Sopra 2's I also listened to. The room correction system integra...
PayPal imposed draconian security blocks AFTER I sold my unit
czarivey " Canadian bank system is even more dangerous than paypal. Canadian government can freeze your funds there bye bye for reason or no reason and it happened already before." That is incorrect the government cannot freeze your funds anym...
matching pre for Dynaco mk4 monoblocks
lots of Dynaco pass preamps out there maybe one of those to match, but yes to a tube preamp. Be carful with the Mk4 mono's they tend to blow transformers if not biased correctly and if over driven hard. They may not be enough power for the Buchar...
PayPal imposed draconian security blocks AFTER I sold my unit
You Americans need to move to the Electronic Transfer system like the Canadian banks use. I never have to deal with PayPal when moving money from myself to a buyer or the other way, if Canadian banks are used. its literally a step in the bank app ...
Checking for crossover and driver issues
A simple multi meter can tell you if there is a short circuit in one of the components or driver. put the meter in continuity check and put the leads (black and red) across the speaker terminals. If it buzzes its shorted, you can also read the res...
Higher-End Class A/B vs. Class A Integrateds
You need to determine how much power you need, ie speaker efficiency etc before you can even consider a Class A amp IMO.  There are not many Pure Class A amp above 50wpc. Most newer ones are 20-30wpc anything above that is switching into Class A/B...
A reasonably priced DAC upgrade from Schiit Gumby
I’d send it in for the multi bi upgrade. It’s much smoother and has a more 3D presentation. I loved mine when I had it. Took a much more expensive DAC to out perform it for musicality.  Chord would be my next suggestion. That’s where I ended up.
