Rel Does Not Recomment Isolation Stands
While I suppose that REL knows what's best for REL, those theories may not be universally applicable. I have a pair of JL Audio e110 subs up on Isoacoustics pucks. They still shake the floor when they should, but with less boom and overhang. There...
Fancy Fuse for Regenerator?
I replaced the stock fuse in my Exact Power ep15a with an Acme CFC fuse and really enjoyed the results; noticeably more lively overall.  I'd been using an SR Orange fuse in my integrated amp, and decided to try the Acme. My "expectation bias" fav...
JL Audio CR-1 Crossover
Ozzy, I could put it in front of my Cary sli-80, but that would accommodate only one input; either my cd player or my 'table. Or I could first put my two sources into a passive preamp, then that pre into the CR-1, then split into the Cary and the...
JL Audio CR-1 Crossover
Congrats, ozzy! I dream of the CR-1. I have a pair of JL Audio e110s connected like REL. Since I run an integrated that lacks the ability to "loop" the CR-1 into the system, it's going to stay a dream, at least for a while.  Enjoy!
The New Synergistic Research Purple Fuses
@cleeds +1 I've successfully used Acme, HiFi tuning, and Synergistic fuses. I've got nearly 200 hours on my Synergistic Purple. In my system, in my opinion, to my ears with nearly 40 years in this hobby, the Purple fuse is one of the most cost ef...
Who will soon be going to a live concert?
Saw Los Lobos Sept 18th (outdoors)Saw Marty Stuart Oct 15th at a venue with strictly enforced vaccine mandate.Have tix for Tedeschi/Trucks Dec 1st  - that feels risky though I'm boostered and will be wearing an N-95 mask.Be careful out there!
The Most Cost Effective Tweak
@rc22Right.All I'm saying is that the closer I get my speakers to "perfect" symmetry in the room, the better focused the soundstage becomes.I have a laser-pointer type measuring device that seems tailor made to this obsessive hobby.Other cost effe...
The Most Cost Effective Tweak
@herman I think that ultra-precise speaker placement is less about the position of your head and more about the speakers' relation to the room.I'm not familiar with Wilson's rationale.
Using solid state rectifiers on Cary SLI80 Amplifier
Performing the surgery you contemplate, unless you are the Cary repair department, will significantly reduce the resale value of the amp.I bought a new (tube rectified) SLI-80 a couple of years ago. I ordered all the factory mods available. These ...
Critical listening and altered states
@oregonpapa You had the good stuff!
Great Recordings, Sonically Speaking - and Why.
Fairly well known but not yet mentioned in this thread:Dead Can Dance: Into the Labyrinth Andreas Vollenweider: Caverna Magica Kraftwerk: Minimum/Maximum All have solid, focused images, wide frequency extension, and spacious (artificial) soundstage.
Anyone drive Verity Audio Parsifal Encores with tubes?
Probably of no use to the OP, but for general interest: we were Verity dealers for twelve years and usually ran the Parsifals with an Air Tight ATM-2 or a pair of ATM-3. Pretty, pretty good!
Favorite cable brand.
Nordost. I’ve been in the hobby since about 1985 and was in retail for 12 years. I’ve personally owned many of the usual suspects, and when in retail many companies would send us cables, hoping we would promote them. Also, trade-ins.Nordost, to my...
Marantz SA-10 vs SA-KI Ruby
I've never heard the SA-10; just as well since it's beyond my budget. I can't help but think that a significant part of the higher expense compared to the SA KI Ruby is the balanced circuitry. Since the remainder of my system is rca, it's not a co...
New SR Orange fuse ...
Hello Frank and thanks for responding. I went from the stock fuse in an otherwise tricked-out Cary SLI-80 directly to the Blue. It was not subtle; clarity, resolution and all the usual audio suspects were enhanced. I expect that the Orange is in m...
