Why do I keep torturing myself with remasters?
FWIW - exception to the (my) rule, maybe...Don't want to sully you vinyl purists but just ordered The James Gang June 2000 remastered CDs of Yer Album and Thirds (already had Rides Again).  Bill Szymczyk supposedly involved with the remastering.  ...
Review: Luminous Audio Axiom Preamplifier
Hello @driver - I read with interest you 2004 review of the Luminous Audio Axiom passive preamp.  I had been interested in getting an active solid state linestage but have been attracted by the very affordable prices of some passive pres (e.g., Pl...

Gents - I see Luminous Audio offers an XLR equipped version of the Axiom, can anyone tell me if that represents a true balanced design?  Hoping it's not a completely ignorant question.  My very basic understanding is that just because a piece of g...
Why do I keep torturing myself with remasters?
oleschool - you are not alone. You are commenting regarding vinyl but many of the remastered, reissued CDs seem too bright to me. They are just unpleasant to listen to (Hendrix - Axis Bold as Love; Todd Rundgren - A Wizard a True Star come to mind...

@bob_reynolds Good suggestion on the 2 way banana plug.  I'll take a look at that.We ain't all that particular about things that don't make an audible difference.  Exactly how stiff is that Belden 12 gauge?  Not like coat hangers, I hope.  I might...

@spoutjack - I expect there will be 2 pairs of speaker level/high level inputs on the sub. A pair (+/-) for the left channel and a pair for the right. Check your sub mftr's. info. to confirm.

@bob_reynolds Hello again Bob. I prefer banana plugs myself but that option is already taken at both the amp and the speaker terminals by the normal speaker wire. It’ll have to be spades/spades I think. Should be able to wrangle a short length (3-...

Thanks for the input Bob.  The only reason for wanting to keep the cables short was simply "tidiness"...cable management, if you will.  Short will let me avoid having a lot of extra length laying around.FWIW - am going to order a few feet of a Bel...

@almarg  @bob_reynolds Gents - took delivery of a pair of the above discussed SVS SB1000 subs.  Currently running them using speaker level input from the amps.  Running the loudspeakers themselves full range.  I'm using mono blocks now.  In the fu...

Who has tried "TIDAL" vs other streaming applications?
Hi Folks - Thanks for the consideration given my remarks.  A couple of additional points:- The V-Link was not part of the headphone listening that compared Spotify Premium vs Tidal HiFi.- I doubt distortion played a role.  Both formats sounded EXC...
Who has tried "TIDAL" vs other streaming applications?
cerrot - I thought any difference between Spotify Premium and Tidal HiFi two was tiny and not something I’d necessarily be able to pick out in a blind test. Now, Tidal HiFi vs the "free" non-premium Spotify? - sure that brings a definite improveme...
Who has tried "TIDAL" vs other streaming applications?
A minority opinion here, I suspect.  You can attribute it to what you will...inadequate gear, the wrong set up, old ears and degraded hearing.  Just spent a good amount of time over several days of a "free" 30 day Tidal HIFI trial A/B-ing tracks (...
Type of flooring in a listening room?
Slowhand - Things will absolutely sound brighter and livelier (maybe too lively) going from carpet to vinyl plank flooring.  We did a refresh on our finished basement.  Removed berber w/padding over concrete slab.  Installed modular subfloor moist...
