Preamp for ATC SCM 19v2 and Merrill Thor mono's?
Why not consider Merrill's own Cara pre-amp?  $3500 and balanced.
Is Classe AUdio no longer???
I agree 100% with erik...I'm old enough to remember a time when, "Made in Japan" was synonymous with "JUNK".  Obviously, that's no longer the case since, following WWII, Japanese industrial leaders had the good sense to listen to William Deming an...
Schitt Freya or older pre instead
rich3549 - Seems to me you will get a pretty well-rounded picture of the Freya reading the posts from kdude66, stfoth, and georgehifi. The unit (mainly the remote) has some quirks; e.g., switching inputs briefly triggers mute but there is a defini...
Schitt Freya or older pre instead
Running a Freya into a Taranis amp w/balanced interconnects.  JFET buffer mode exclusively.  Took the tubes out.    It sounds great to me.  NOT noisy at all - though there is some low level "warbling" that can be heard when "muted", oddly enough. ...
Directionality of wire
doh!Had ICs on the brain.  Completely overlooked SPEAKER cables, even though I copied that as part of the quote!  Thanks for unconfusing me, jea48.
Directionality of wire
from the Chord excerpt..."Chord speaker cables should be connected so that the print on the cable reads in the direction of the signal. In effect, the C of Chord should be nearest the amplifier."If print should read in the direction of signal [flo...

Sorry O - I'd missed the documentary link you posted when I was writing that 1:30PM post.  No problem.  Sometimes it's good to hear things in a wildly different context.
Jazz for aficionados
Always a pleasure (and privilege) to make introductions.  O - Debbie Harry was lead singer in Blondie.  You might know them (unavoidably!) or otherwise from a bunch of top 10s they had back in the bad old '80s days of Studio 54 and the like.  Her ...

O- thanks for the Quinitorigo version of GPH. They are new to me. Interesting arrangement. Quirky. For the record, the lyric is by Joni Mitchell (tho’ I expect you knew that). Acman - as per usual posting something of notable quality. Like the atm...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9MswAKmwvw&ab_channel=AndySummers-TopicWell known, well-covered Mingus piece composed while in a less volatile, more reflective mood, I suppose.  Hope you enjoy this version.I did read from one his band members...
Gungnir sound before and after multi-bit upgrade?
Bob - Doing the MB to the Gungnir seems to have transformed it into a different product altogether. I’m not given to exaggeration; often things some call "huge" I either can’t hear or simply find to be subtle and inconsequential. Upgrade doesn’t r...
Gungnir sound before and after multi-bit upgrade?
Another followup post re the Gungnir MB upgrade...Am continuing to enjoy how music is sounding, mostly listening to ripped CDs or Tidal through an Aries Mini via Black Cat Silverstar 75 SPDIF to MF V-Link 192 to Gungnir. After listening to a rippe...
Would "Sgt. Pepper's" be a better album if.....
asvjerry - since you felt compelled to share your opinion of RR as humorist, "nattering nabobs of negativism" was a memorable phrase uttered by VP Spiro Agnew - an even funnier guy.
Would "Sgt. Pepper's" be a better album if.....
dodgealum - I don't want to get embroiled in a "better album" debate :-) though I sort of get where you are going with this. Of your two options, I guess I’d choose Penny Lane given Lennon’s Lucy in the Sky and Being For the Benefit of Mr. Kite ar...
Interesting article on audiophiles and audiophilia
Thanks for posting, Simao. Well-written and sympathetic. It articulates so many aspects of the "hobby". Despite dubious personal credentials, pleased to have dealings with other bona fide members of the "tribe" from my dwelling in the low rent out...
