How are you getting your surround sound?
@scar972 Movies that are available in 4K are streamed in 4K on Apple and Amazon. We watch 3 movies a week and virtually all are 4K. Both Apple and Amazon stream movies in ATMOS. Our older processor does not support ATMOS. It does support TrueHD an...
How are you getting your surround sound?
I have a older high end surround processor, with excellent speakers and amp. We stream through Apple most of the time, also Amazon, and Comcast. For the last few years streaming has been sonically equivalent to blu-Rays. We bought a few 4K disks a...
100 watts enough?
I have to agree with those suggesting powerful amps. You want more than just enough, you want a high current amp. I would also recommend the Pass x350.8. I owned an x350 for fifteen years. Tremendous current, and it should make your speakers sound...
How many of you are digital only systems?
@tom2015…”but skipping from song to song” Funny you should say that, because the exact same thing happened to me. Streaming caused me to “channel surf” so to speak. So I took apart my streaming end about five or six years ago (Apple notebook). I w...
Buying used: how old is too old?
I think it depends on the speaker. I had some ESS AMT 1Ds that had the cones disintegrate after about 15 years. I have had my 2 of my 20 year old 4 B&W 800 “retaped”.  Some of the older speakers may have been made out of material that may not ...
Amplifier Break-in - It's Real
For a couple reasons I broke in three Audio Research Reference 160s amplifiers. Each time the sound differences were obvious and followed the same sequence at roughly the same time… just generally starting out bright for the first 10 hours (new la...
Dumb question?
Yes, that is fine.
VAC preamps - too expensive?
Yes the most common comparable companies are Audio Research and Conrad Johnson. I believe all are excellent brands. While I have auditioned all and all respected, I have all ARC components.
Will line conditioner do anything for the other receptacle in a duplex?
No I agree with Jason, although I have not tested it. However there are a number of wall wart devices that you plug into a duplex receptacle which are supposed to help reduce noise everywhere, or in the adjacent plug. Based on reviews I have a few...
VAC preamps - too expensive?
People make choices on how to live their life, how dedicated to work they are, how much investment in their education they make,  and how to spend their money. There are disparaging remarks on the opposite side of “filthy rich”.

Thank you for the kind words. I am very much a advocate of forums being a place of information exchange and support, not place of self-aggrandizement, bravado, criticism, and personal attacks. My favorite forum is Audio Aficionado… it is a private...
warmest speaker cables you've heard?
I would be really interested  in your impressions after they are broken in.
VAC preamps - too expensive?
People that really enjoy well reproduced music do not generally hear a law of diminishing returns. They hear and are rewarded with a much more emotionally involving experience. The closer and more involving is worth the increasing cost to get ther...
How to isolate turntable from footstep shake or vibration
@millercarbon .I couldn’t agree more. Learning how to learn… I have been very lucky.

I have definitely noticed most systems have a unique sweet spot in volume, typically not low volume. This isn’t psychological. Some do sound great at low volumes. I am confident that the differences among systems exist. However, I have been fortun...
