Love my new amp and pre-amp
😃😊👍Take your time. Get to completely know the sound of your system and let it fully break in. All my Audio Research gear is supposed to take 600 hours of use to break in. While most of the real obvious change was over the first 250 hours… I did no...
Best Speaker Choice for my very "non-audio-friendly" Living Room
Interesting question. So, if imaging isn’t important… what is the purpose of the liven room system? Listening for many? Casual. The fireplace, how wide… how far from the listening area? a couch?things I am thinking is stuff like high quality monit...
A sincere Thank You to AudiogoN members for the congeniality and sharing!

Subwoofer Out to Mains?
+1 to Millercarbon.  Do the shortest and  best possible connection of primary signal to preamp, amp and speakers. Then worry about the subwoofer.
DAC - DCS Bartok or the new Berkeley Alpha DAC 3
@mgrif104 +1. Very definitely over fifteen years I fiddled with streamers of all types: PCs, $100, $500, $1000, Auralic Aries G2, the Aurender 100n… and quickly Aurender N10, and finally Aurenders flagship WE20SE… the last initially seemed ridicul...
Better CD Sound: The Search
With today’s audio products one can easily find CD Players that sound better than a Streamer / DAC combination, the reverse as well. It is a question of the component(s) choice and the system you are plugging them in to. My streamer sounds as good...
Better CD Sound: The Search
@soix +1. Absolutely. Whole worlds of music… for the same price as a CD per month. A complete revelation. Now instead of bouncing around my collection, I can explore the entire world of music.
DAC - DCS Bartok or the new Berkeley Alpha DAC 3
The ARC DAC 9 is about $12K less than the Alpha. The ARC DAC 9 does not have the SE designation but it will probably sound roughly similar to the ARC CD9se ($17K).Every time I switched another component to high quality tubed component it sounded b...
DAC - DCS Bartok or the new Berkeley Alpha DAC 3
I had a Berkeley Alpha 3 in my system for several weeks and was able to do direct comparisons with my DAC. It is outstanding, detailed, natural, and musical. I could not imagine anyone not being happy with it. (My system shown under my ID).I was c...
Observation: Passion vs Obsession
I tend to move to be a bit obsessive during my once every seven year upgrade cycles. But then just passionately enjoy the music in between. I want to get through the upgrade cycles as fast as possible… but they take about a year.
Better CD Sound: The Search
I tend not to buy used stuff that has a mechanical component. But it can really help leverage your buying power. You are fishing in the real low end of pond. Better sounding and more reliable is going to come from an old high end deck. Go to Stere...
Thoughts on JRiver Media Center? Anyone using it?
You have a great system. I recommend a high quality streamer. This will get you sound commiserate with the rest of your system. PC / notebooks are too noisy, not built for high quality sound. Like all audio components, you generally get the sound ...
Focal, B&W or Martin Logan
Another thought… if you can’t slide in a listening chair… then Omni directional speakers. MBL or German Physiks? I have never cared for Walsh… so I hate to mention them… but, I just did.
Focal, B&W or Martin Logan
Ok… I completely understand, I am an old fart. How about “sliders” under your back chair? Also, all the places I sit have these sacro supports behind them. Made for cars, but work great in chairs and couches.https://relaxtheback.com/products/mccar...
120hz hum coming from all-tube system - but only at high volumes
60 cycle… I am thinking is what you mean. All ground loops I have experienced have been at low volume or almost none. It is a trickle behind the scenes and does not increase in volume… it is like a, well little trickle of water behind the scenes. ...
