Retirement integrated amp for a “fiscal conservative”…..Part 1: I have a plan
At 73 I want the very best sounding amp I have ever owned in my life. The dealer can bring it in and position it. If not the very best now, then when… or are we looking forward to our lives going downhill.
I find myself "tuning out" anymore.....is the magic fading?
I go through upgrade cycles. Frenetic activity... research, testing, purchasing, burning in, tweaking... then bliss. Bliss is listening without yearning for a new piece of equipment... knowledge that I have a fully optimized system on the forefron...
The Real Reason Why Music Is Getting Worse!!
Rock was not music to our parents... it was noise. We could not understand how they could be so closed mined.
Strange Cable Experiment
Congratulations. Great when something this counterintuitive works out. Certainly not an approach that would likely always work, but it can.  A dealer of mine was so overwhelmed by the performance of some phonostage interconnects that he sent me a...
Vinyl guy seeking recommendation for a top level cd player
Well, I am sure your theory fits a few people.  I happen to own a very high end vinyl rig and have 2,000 pristine and audiophile pressing albums that I have collected over a lifetime. My digital / streaming end sounds as good and sometimes better...
At the top of the line is it really all that different?
It depends on you. Are you thrilled by the incremental difference? I am. It is what has been so rewarding about this pursuit. That additional realism and the fit with my aesthetic... which is now how well duplicates real natural music. Both aspect...
Hegel hum?
In fifty years of owning high end audio equipment I have never heard a hum coming from any of my components.
Does anyone listen to the radio anymore?
A few minutes from my Tivoli Model One some days while brushing my teeth. I do enjoy Portland's great classical radio station this way.
Hegel hum?
If you put your ear a foot from the speakers it is common to hear a faint hiss. But not a hum. This could be a faint ground loop. This would be that the amp is on a different circuit from the rest or one piece of equipment and there is a slight po...
Need a little help
@soix +1 Yep, keep the AV equipment out of the two channel system. It will sound better. Build from there.
What does your Virtual System page say about you?
OP, very nice! I really like the cabinet.

@daniel25  That is probably the most efficient path!
Subs?
Two subs are always better than one. They extend the soundstage.  If you are looking for realistic sound then the subs will be turned now to a whisper... if they are not then the sound field will become compromised and broken up by the extended b...
My Sonus Faber Amatis have weak bass even though I'm running ML 536s--800 w/ch into 4 ohms
OP, I think we are zeroing in on the problem. You are looking for crazy high bass. B&W are know to be very bass heavy. And you you owned B&W803’s and did not think they had enough bass. So, what is going on here sounds like you want a ve...
A cable too perfect?
I have remained on the fence about buying a cable cooker for over thirty years. I probably should have bought one back then... would have saved me a lot of time and complexity over the years.
