Advice needed on MC cartridges I moved to high quality cartridges about 30 years ago… a Van den Hull Frog (MC)… about $3,500 on my VPI Aries. It completely took my system to a whole new level. I think I put a couple thousand hours on it and 20 years of use with no maintenance. ...
Which NAS should I choose? I have had NAS for ten of fifteen years. My career was in IT… Director of IT for the last three decades. I wouldn’t bother. The age of local storage is nearly over. Streaming is what works now and into the future. I have 14tb of NAS now. I stream ...
Harmonic Technology Magic Link soldering issues I have a couple sets of Pro Silway 2 and a bunch of others above magic grade. All have been great.. and in use for many years.
In home speaker demo- Wilson Sabrina with older McIntosh equipment-- how long to decide? I would expect a few minutes will do it. Unless setup is way off. Most of the speakers I brought home were… Wow, they sound great. I am not a waffler. One word of advice. Try not to be all amped up and “ready to decide”… you want your subconsciou...
CDs And Green Markers. Please Don’t Laugh. I like CD Stoplight… it helps make discs sound better. But I stopped buying CDs now that streaming quality is at or above CD quality. All my 2,000 discs have been “Stoplite”.
Speakers: same brand? It is very important the center is the same as left and right. Most dialog on HT comes from center (85% of sound) it needs the same character as others. Certainly does help to have all the same. But it isn’t as important.
As a chill electronica listener, should I stop at a Med-Fi system? Good quality speakers are the place to start. The real trick in buying speakers is getting ones that really speak to you… you have get an emotional connection with. To do that… I really recommend listening to speakers… as many and as high end as p...
Decisive moments your your audio journey Season tickets to the symphony. 7th row center seats… repeated exposure to live acoustic music… completely changed the direction of sonic goals and subsequent purchases. I stoped chasing ethereal sound with slam and worked towards natural sounding...
CD transports; do they really matter First, does the transport matter… yes. High end manufactures take mass produced transports and isolate them and provide very stable current. They go to great lengths to get the best stream of bits out of them. However, it is a stream of bits… ...
Remote Control with Auralic Aries G2 I had a Auralic Aries G2 for about a year. I liked the lighting app. But switched over to Aurender I found it to have better sound quality and much more reliable connection and overall operation. I found the Auralic to be frustrating at times. I l...
Do you trust your system? Over the last twenty years of my fifty year audiophile career I have gone out of my way to listen to live acoustic music… a single piano, small unamplified jazz ensemble, and I have had season tickets to a great symphony orchestra in a good acoust...
Buying refurbished gear.... I have bought “refurbished gear” off and on for decades. Never high end audio gear, usually photography, HT, astronomy… stuff that matters less to me. Most of the time it appears new… perhaps some way of discounting and getting around manufacturer...
T+A Made in Germany The best…. by an order of magnitude Chinese food I have ever had was in China. The pale insignificant food labeled as Chinese in the states is unreal. I love China… well and Japan… and Scotland… and Mexico… the people are so wonderful…. But ho...
20 year old power center from monster, Circuits still OK? @soix Agreed . I had actually purchased a couple of those for my HT and an extra system… they seemed to perform like a switch boxes as opposed to a real power conditioner (like I have on my main audio system). In fact it didn’t even protect my pro...
Bluesound Node 2021 DAC - I sold my Denafrips Ares II @painter24 Great thread. Excellent exchange of experiences and perceptions without almost any sweeping conclusions on all equipment cheap or grand. The kind of thread all can learn from. |
