Integrated Amplifiers - Luxman vs Pass Labs
I think you guys are talking about bloom… it the opposite of thin… where individual sounds are fully fleshed out, typically midrange bloom is the term used but I have found it can be applied to bass as well.   Low>……………..High Bryston….Pass……...
Sound carpet
I use Oriental heavy wool rugs… they are extremely dense and therefore absorbent… beautiful, and relatively thin. Shop with your wife. You can see some of mine in photos of my systems.
Aurender streamers
I have experience with the N100 (still own), N10, and W20SE (still own). The step up between each level of Aurender is worth the price if you have the system to support it. Each step 100, 10 to 20se was amazing and worth every penny. I can’t but h...
Digital Gear & Upgrade Question, What do I need?
You have tremendous opportunities for improvement. I spent about fifteen years moving from PCs and NAS etc to a good sounding system. I was reluctant to upgrade the streamer portions. Wow, I really wasted time. You have really good equipment. I r...
Can I please borrow your collective brain power?
Preamps typically use the little tubes that produce little heat and cost. If the unit works without the preamp tubes (my guess is it will not)… it will probably not reduce the heat by any appreciable amount. So, if you just want to use as an amp, ...
Anybody have strong opinions about the ARC ref 6 versus the ref 6SE?
My last preamp upgrade was from a Reference 5SE to a Reference 6SE. So, I haven’t heard the Ref 6. The Ref 5SE vs Ref 6SE Is a nice upgrade to the same kind of sound. But the 6 versus 6SE are one of carefully chosen internal components versus desi...
Aqua 'La Diva' ($9k) or Gryphon 'Ethos' ($39k) versus. Pro-Ject CD Box RS2 T ($3k)?
Seriously? What is the point of buying a Porsche when you could buy a Volkswagen. If you are looking for transportation there is no substantive difference. If you are looking for the experience of responsive and elegant machine to experience movin...

Dumb question wrt Lingo 4
I have never turned mine off… is there a switch somewhere? It’s not tubed, no way am I switching it off and on.
2022 is almost here. Why are you here?
I have spent fifty years acquiring the knowledge I have on building high end audio systems. From the beginning I wanted to own a high end system, an assault on the best possible. Of course, I had little money, and at the beginning little knowledge...
In Classical music the effect of SQ on appreciation
Mahler is a very important case. The importance of fidelity in mass orchestrations is particularly challenging for home reproduction. In live performances it comes alive, to do that at home takes a very special system. I had noticed long ago that ...
Amplfiers that Sound like Pass 30.8 that are not so heavy
Personally my experience is the heavier the better anything sounds. You own a great sounding amp. I am getting old and don’t move stuff around much any more. I would keep that fine sounding amp. “Sliders” and intellect can solve the movement probl...
In Classical music the effect of SQ on appreciation
I got deeply involved in high end audio in 1979. I expanded my musical interest from rock to include classical in the early 80’s. I found that the quality of the recording typically was more important than the conductor / orchestra in most cases… ...
2022 Audio System Wish List and thoughts about streaming
I am upgrading my Linn LP12 from the Akito tone arm to the Ekos se and swapping out the  sub chassis for the Keel.     My VPI record cleaner failed yesterday, so I ordered a Nessie Vinyl pro + record cleaner. Should be a nice improvement over the...
Any thoughts on the Luxman PD 171
Congradulations, I hope you enjoy it.
