Primaluna or not Primaluna
@moto_man    +1Very true.
Static attack! Time to get the humidifiers going
@mikelavigne Thanks for the tip on the Hudson. I’ll verify the carbon fiber is touching. It does a good job of picking up any dust that may have lighted since I put the record down. I think the Hudson is de-staticing the surface. My problem, lik...
Static attack! Time to get the humidifiers going
@mikelavigne  Thank you for the recommendations. I like the black monolith. These days, it is nice to have stuff that looks nice as well as is functional. Very enjoyable after a life of compromising on looks for greater performance, finally havin...
Static attack! Time to get the humidifiers going
Good question. I now have a Hudson Destat brush as well. It kind of helps. I have owned Zerostat’s for decades and they have never done a thing for me… I finally threw them out.    So, I am interested in hearing as well.
DAC’s
Social priorities. I had pulled up to a huge intersection with red light (six lanes plus turning lanes - so 10 across) on my bicycle in the left turn lane (as appropriate). No other car anywhere in site except one that pulled up two lanes to my r...
Who's Afraid of the Art of Noise
I remember The Art of Noice’s first album very fondly. I love that they took noices and crafted music.
Speaker upgrade
I would listen some more. I am sure your listening was analytical oriented… trying to identify differences. This is how most people do it. I recommend going back in and just listen to the music for the sake of music. Try not to be analytical. Fin...
Pleasurably better, not measurably better
I cringe when the word “accuracy” is introduced. The conversation tends to head towards simplistic measurements and goes off the rails. For me, I need the gestalt right… conversations about accuracy tend to go to a few single measurements that c...
DAC’s
The DAC is one of the critical components of your system. I read some reviews on the Meitner MA3 DAC. Seems very respectable for the money… as in the sound quality sounds worth the money. To be getting the most out of your DAC you need to have or...
A/B Comparison On A Pair Of Moderately Priced Streamers
@rudyb I absolutely agree with not quarreling. You present a reasonable argument why streamers should not make a big difference. I told myself that for years. I streamed with every conceivable device. Then I finally took home a reasonable mid-le...
Is Accuphase a good match for my system?
I would think given the value of the components you are dealing with that a trip to a city to hear them. Make it a weekend mini-vacation. Schedule time at a couple audio stores for a couple hours of listening to two or three integrated amps… maybe...
A/B Comparison On A Pair Of Moderately Priced Streamers
I think you pose a good question. It has not been addressed directly. I will try a bit better.   I looked at reviews of the Inuous. I have to say researching many streamers and owning a Aurlic Aries G2, and Aurender N100, N10 and W20SE, I would g...
Has anyone truly compared Vintage vs. Modern?
@akg_ca +1 I still have my Marantz 2040… which I occationally bring out… I have thought of having it reconditioned just for fun, it sounds terrible. But I know from following the progression of audio decade by decade that the progression goes o...
When someone tells you it's a $40,000 amp, does it sound better?
@westcoastaudiophile Well, I have $34K mono block amps and a $22K stereo amp (see my user ID) and no question the mono blocks produce much better sound than the $22K ones or the Pass $10K amps they replace. I think a total of 4 people have seen ...
What should I upgrade first on my budget system?
I think your speakers are probably the best component in your system. Typically you start there. But in your case I think you may wait until last.  I always try and get a big improvement with each new component.    I try and build all components...
