New belt for Michell Gyro SE?
I have not heard of a new belt. Artceh sells directly. Send them an email.
Drilling holes into the Michell Orbe SE subchasis?
Michell actually had a version for two arms at one time (pictures), though I never saw it offered for sale. I am guessing you plan on bypassing the suspension? The TT has a 1Kg. wt. limit for an arm+base so I am guessing that limit has to be split...
One Step Record Cleaner Recipe
I have used home brew recepies but only on my used purchases and always with a wash. Really, a home brew 1 step is tough since it would really contain only one substance, distilled H20. You'd be better off buying the MF RRSW as mentioned prior.
Choosing a new turntable
I did the same thing back in "2000" dumping my Linn LP12. I never looked back. I went to a Michell despite the suspension problems I had in the past. It's still not perfect but at least it can be adjusted easily and it does not really affect the o...
Michell Gyro Se running a little slow
I have an Orbe with the AC motor. Get one of these for $25.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MMW0PY/ref=oss_T15_product.It's cheap and you can run a LP with it to see if indeed you are running slow. Usually as a belt gets older it starts to shr...
VPI - HR-X or a SME 20/2A
I guess the question I'd have to ask is why spend so much on the TT in the first place especially if your new to analog as you say. That means that your LP collection is zero? How many CD's do you own? You say that most of your listening is Classi...
Measure My Turntable Speed
OK, I have to speak up here as well. I pondered this same question a while back and found via the grape vine a great and cheap solution. I bought the Wally tools and tried the Cardas LP and frequency measuring via the test meter. My TT was running...
Looking for guidance with older VPI HW-19 tables
I recently picked up a HW19 Mk3 for a aux. system. I was really suprised by how good it sounds. Why look for one if this is your feeling, "I'm not married to the idea of a VPI HW-19." Does that mean your open to others or your only considering it ...
What would you chose? VPI MKIII vs. Linn LP-12
I have/had both. I replaced the Linn with a Michell Orbe and never looked back. I think the LP12 is overly fussy and a PITA to ste up (spring bounce). I have a VPI HW19Mk3/mod'd Rb300 in a second system. I mainly use it to play my older 60's-80's ...
Graham Phantom mk II & JA Michelle ORBE se help
Did you ever contact Artech about the armboard? Are you still using the orig. alum. armboard for the Phantom? Acording to Artech, the Phantom's 1100 g. weight is too heavy for use with the orig. armboard and you should get the newer acrylic one ma...
The Naim 'sound'
Like everything else it comes down to what YOU prefer. Why ask someone else which sounds better. What sounds better to you? If Naim sounds too dynamic at the price of sudtlty or nuance then go for something else. Forget about which sounds more lik...
Micro Fiber Cloth for Record Cleaning
A flash light during a night session proved to me how useless brushes can be. I use compressed air in a can and a zerostat. I will have to consider the cloth but would really need to find an adequate one. The problem with them would seem to be lik...
Rega RB300 Best Upgrade & Vertical Tracking?
I used a Discovery Plus4 phono cable with my TT for a few years. I really liked it. It is extremely musical. It's main emphasis is mid range and has a great HF charecter. The RB300 wire upgrade from Discovery uses Plus4. HiFi+ did a great review o...
tt surface noise reduce or tolerate?
I can't tell you how many "new" pressings I bought were very noisy. I thought I was getting all the crap and everyone else was getting the good stuff. Many times it's the pressing. Trying to lessen the effects is the trick. So many things control ...
Gyrodec question
What do mean by finicky? The Pedersen mod's are supposed to make it less so, or at least I thought. What mods were done exactly? Motor?, Plinth? Suspension? You can reverse or not use all but the plinth mods.
